Bandai to Release Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

The moment we've all been waiting for: Haruhi's disappearance! Wait, what?

The latest episode of the ASOS Brigade is up, and this week, Haruhi is screening a movie-- and it's not The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina. No, Bandai Entertainment has acquired the rights to The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya.  At last!

Even better-- for me at least --it'll screen in San Francisco at VIZ Cinemas in the New People center on May 21st. Which means I'm gonna go check it out and come back and report to those of you who can't make it. There are also screenings in Hawaii, and more to be revealed later. The DVD's release date is currently TBA-- but yes, it WILL include an English dub by Bang Zoom, and presumably the original English dub cast, since they're back together for season 2 anyway.

By the by-- if there are enough Bay Area Vice Squad members, maybe we can put together some kinda party for the May 21st screening. Let me know in the comments!  As for the rest of you, feel free to rejoice. Or whine that there's no word on when there might be a DVD or otherwise more accessible release. (I wonder if Crunchyroll might stream the movie later on?...)

Oh boy oh boy oh boy oh boy. It's my favorite light novel in movie form~

I watched Lagann-hen when it aired in New People. I MUST watch Disappearance. Hopefully it's in the evening (it seems to be the case most of the time anyway). I really would love to check this out (and thank goodness it's before Fanime).

Now to figure out a way so that I definitely watch this...

Guh why can't they do a release through theaters like Bandai has done with Eureka 7 and Sword of the Stranger? I'm hoping they do that.
Konandaon April 15, 2010 at 4:22 p.m.

Flying out to San Francisco for a day and than flying back, a week before Anime North. Ya, no. At least due to the time differerence (assuming this plays in the evening) I won't still be at work knowing that is going on. Anyway I'm pumped for the DVD release.

Also that Bandai branded popcorn looks pretty awesome.

@Konanda:
personally I love that you can stll see part of the AMC even with the gundam added onto it. I knew that endless 8 was the arsenic pill they would have to swallow to get this and its exciting to get an annoucment even before the japanese dvds are released. I guess as a loyal ASOS brigade member I must now delete my handcam video of it (which I have not gotten to watch) and wait patiently for the dvd.  I predict the next announcement to be all of haruhi including the movie to be released for blu-ray maybe?

@yuetheguardian:
Ya. I'm excited for when it comes out. Also I have the prediction that parallel universes or multiple instances of the same existance are going to be involved based on the shot of the two drawings seen at the 20 second mark. They look like like some sci-fi pseudoscience explaination of something to that effect. Also right after that is a shot of Kyon with a gun and an immediate cut to Kyon on the ground in what appears to be at least a moderate level of pain, which suggests that maybe there is two Kyons.

Awesome! Hope it shows on the east coast sometime soon. 3000 miles is kind of far but if its in DC NY PHI or even ATL im all in. It sucks to be broke though.

I might actually be able to attend the May 21st premiere screening since I guess I'm scheduled to have that day off from work. So count me in on whatever pre- or post-party there might be that night!
John_Martoneon April 28, 2010 at 12:08 p.m.
... I'm very, very excited for this.

@CalAggie:
Trust me, at the very least Ana, Gia, and I will be there, giggling excitedly.
Cogitoon April 28, 2010 at 12:12 p.m.
I'll be honest, the Endless 8 episodes completely killed my interest in anything Haruhi-related, I want to like it, but I can't. :(

Dig Deeper into The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya

Kyon wakes up one morning and suddenly finds himself in a world where the SOS Brigade doesn't exist. Haruhi is gone, and neither Mikuru or Nagato recognize him.
