So the winners of the 2009 SPJA Industry Awards have been announced. I'm going to go through and see how I did with my votes and guesses!
Category 01: Best Voice Actor (Japanese)
Kappei Yamaguchi DEATH NOTE - L
MY TAKE: I voted for Kamina because I felt that the voice really made the character, while L was pretty cool to begin with.
Category 02: Best Voice Actor (English)
Kyla Hebert GURREN LAGAAN - Kamina
MY TAKE: I can't believe Samuel L Jackson didn't win-- that's just amazing. Also, you may notice that they're still calling the winner "Kyla" instead of "Kyle."
Category 03: Best Voice Actress (Japanese)
Junko Takeuchi - NARUTO - Naruto Uzumaki
MY TAKE: I voted for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time; Takeuchi will have plenty more opportunities to take prizes for Naruto.
Category 04: Best Voice Actress (English)
Michelle Ruff BLEACH THE MOVIE: MEMORIES OF NOBODY - Rukia Kuchiki
MY TAKE: No Shin-chan? T_T But Michelle was up for two roles, and popular ones, so that makes sense.
Category 05: Best Casting Director
Jaime Simone - BLEACH
MY TAKE: I voted for Simone, but for Afro Samurai. What is with the lack of Sammy J love?
Category 06: Best Character Design
Masaru Kitao of Madhouse DEATH NOTE
MY TAKE: I still feel credit for those designs goes to Takeshi Obata, hence my vote for the Darker than Black character designer.
Category 07: Best Mechanical Design
Yoh Yoshirari GURREN LAGAAN
MY TAKE: Finally! I got one! Granted, I did already say it was a lock.
Category 08: Best Male Character
L DEATH NOTE
MY TAKE: I got another one! <3 That's two for...a lot more than two.
Category 09: Best Female Character
Rukia Kuchiki BLEACH THE MOVIE: MEMORIES OF NOBODY
MY TAKE: Revy is going to shoot Rukia in the face.
Category 10: Best Mascot Character
Mokona xxxHOLIC
MY TAKE: I voted Boota. BOOTA BOOTA BOOTA.
Category 11: Best Backround Design
Minoru Nakamura of Studio Pierrot - BLEACH
MY TAKE: I voted for The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, which totally deserves more awards than it has right now.
Category 12: Best Original Video Animation
LUCKY STAR OVA - Bandai Entertainment
MY TAKE: I voted for it, but I haven't seen it yet (it's not OUT yet in the US)-- but I hadn't seen the other two.
Category 13: Best Feature Film
THE GIRL WHO LEPT THROUGH TIME - Bandai Entertainment
MY TAKE: FINALLY!
Category 14: Best Television Series
GURREN LAGAAN - Bandai Entertainment
MY TAKE: Well-deserved.
Category 15: Best Original Score
DEATH NOTE Score DEATH NOTE - Yoshihisa Hirano and Hideki Taniuchi
MY TAKE: Emma is too pretty for American fans.
Category 16: Best Original Song
"Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" - Bleach - Beat Crusaders - Aniplex Inc. BEAT
CRUSADERS
MY TAKE: Should have gone to the RZA, but Bleach does have great music.
Category 17: Best Director (Japanese)
Tetsuro Araki DEATH NOTE
MY TAKE: Mamoru Hosoda should have had it for The GIrl Who Leapt Through Time. But Araki did wonders with Death Note's pacing, so that's ok.
Category 18: Best Director (American)
Karl Willems - DEATH NOTE
MY TAKE: I voted One Piece but I don't follow dubs enough.
Category 19: Best Manga - Action
TSUBASA: RESERVOIR CHRONICLE - Del Rey Manga - Clamp
MY TAKE: No final award for Hellsing's end? SAD!
Category 20: Best Manga - Comedy
FAIRY TAIL - Del Rey Manga - Hiro Mashima
MY TAKE: Yeah, that makes sense.
Category 21: Best Manga - Drama
MONSTER - Viz Media - Naoki Urasawa
MY TAKE: Well, duh.
Category 22: Best Publication
Shonen Jump - VIZ Media
MY TAKE: I voted Style School just for something new.
Category 23: Best Full Motion Video in Video Game
FINAL FANTASY IV - Square-Enix
MY TAKE: Well....duh.
