Bandai Entertainment has a guest from Lantis, Ai Takai, with an announcement from Bandai Visual Japan, which teamed up with Lantis (a music production company): They're going to release Jpop and anime music on iTunes in the US and Canada starting later this month or next month at the latest. They're talking up some of the artists now, including JAM Project, Aya Hirano, Minori Chihara, CooRie, Yozuca, and Minami Kurabayaki.

That is really cool.

Back to Bandai Entertainment proper, run by marketing head Bob Napton and president Ken Iyadomi. This next bit is the sum-up of current and upcoming titles. I'll just share release dates as they go through.

Sword of the Stranger out now...
Kurokami DVD info ncoming soon
Code Geass is currently airing on Adult Swim at 2am, and the first part of R2 is coming out in August, with a regular edition and special with volume 4 of the manga-- that should be interesting.
Gundam 00 second season is also airing on SyFy. Season 1 part 1 is due out July 21st; special edition has the first manga volume and Gundam 00-F, neither of which will be released until sometime later.
Gurren Lagann is out in its entirety of course.
The Lucky Star OVA is due out the first week of August at an SRP of $14.98-- no dub, but a few extras, like the Washinomiya Lucky Star Event and some Lucky Channel stuff.
Hayate no Gotoku is also dub-less, episodes 1-7 on July 21st for $39.98.
.hack//G.U. Trilogy is $19.98 and due out in August, also no dub. Extras include "parody mode." Hmm!
True Tears is due in July as an Anime Legends release.
Aaaaand sola is also due in August in a complete collection.
FREEDOM standard-def and anime legends Eureka Seven are both due out this month.

Volume 2 of the Code Geass light novels are due out soon. Suzaku of the Counter-Attack is on sale now, both volumes.
The Girl Who Leapt Through Time manga is also due out this month.
Lucky Star volume 1 is on sale currently, came out about a week ago. Volume 2 in September. Apparently it's doing very well!
Gundam 00 regular and Gundam 00F will be out in August and October respectively, but both are available early with the Gundam 00 season 1 part 1 special edition.
The Eureka Seven manga is being released in an omnibus, the first of a series we're told, in September.
Witchblade Takeru of course just got nominated for a Harvey again; omnibus in November.

ANNOUNCEMENT TIME!

It's another Bones item. Let's see...the Eureka Seven movie.   Looks very AU from the series, but it's Bones, so it'll be awesome-lookin'. They're calling the movie now "Eureka Seven -good night, sleep tight, young lovers-."

And more: on September 24th they'll have a one-night-only engagement with Fathom at 3-400 theaters, like Sword of the Stranger and other films. Sweet! Tickets go on sale August 21st. It'll be the debut of the English-language version, so sounds like dub. You can check out their site for the movie, eurekasevenmovie.bandai-ent.com, which is currently up and running.

Part three of the announcement? Also live right now, ANN is now streaming the Eureka Seven TV series.

Q&A session-- someone asked about Haruhi season 2, but it's "classified." Someone's asking about Blu-Ray, which of course they have several releases of.

The end!

Dubs are going extinct, aren't they?

@joshsanimeblog: I'm very sad that dubs are starting to go away... but if it saves time and money so I guess there's nothing to do but cut back as much as you can to release things quicker.

They didn't mention True Tears?  RightStuf says they're releasing it as a box set later this month.  How about Shigofumi?

Edit:

OK, I see you added True Tears.  How about about Shigofumi still?

@gia: Hayate no Gotoku is also dub-less, episodes 1-7 on July 21st for $39.98.

That seems a little... pricey.

That's alot of cool stuff I've been waiting for, Code Geass R2, True Tears, sola, even Hayate at what seems like an odd price. Hopefully they stick to their release dates.

@RedRoses: It's this misconception that dubs cost an arm and a leg that's making them go extinct. By comparison to the price of the licensing rights (most of the time), dubs are nothing.

It's almost the same stupid thing that's going on with the gaming industry. They put on DRM to keep people from stealing it, but in the end it bites them in the ass since it gets cracked anyway and less people buy it because they don't want to have to put up with an intrusive system. In this case they're cutting out dubs so that it costs a little less to produce, but then less people buy it (at least, people like me) because they were at least hoping to get SOME feature they hadn't seen before with it. I happily paid that $50 for the Familiar of Zero boxset, and 90% of the reasoning in my head (regardless if I'm force tricking myself into it) was because at the very least I'd get to hear a dub of it that I hadn't heard before. Heck, most of the fun with watching a series you've already seen before is from judging the dub job regardless if it's good or bad.

Doesn't sound like too much, but all the Eureka Seven news got me happy. The movie being in Fathom actually means it'll play near me. Plus, I've been waiting for that anime legends release for a while.

@HeeroYuy: Well... even if it doesn't cost that much to dub, the process is still quite heinous and stops companies from releasing DVDs quicker right? They'll have to rewrite the script to match the lip flaps so that it makes sense and follows the animated mouth (no Speed Racer-like quality please). I assume re-dubbing takes a bit more time than what the Japanese seiyuu have to deal with since the Japanese don't normally have to follow lip flaps while recording with storyboards/key animation rather than the finished animated product. It must get quite annoying to dub on time with lip flaps and to use emotion in whatever role redubbing voice actors do.

I buy DVDs for extras and to support whatever license I want to support. Special features like documentaries, interviews, and all that stuff is what really makes me pick up a series.

I do like dubs. I also find fun times rewatching a series and comparing the dub to the sub. Granted, I don't know moonspeak or anything but I can still tell a quality dub from a... not so quality dub.
I still want dubs to be on my DVDs but if they don't have them, it's not a complete lost to me. As long as there are extras worth looking into, I'll continue buying DVDs.

@joshsanimeblog: It's a liveblog so I added as the panel went on :) But no, no word on Shigofumi. I'm going to catch up with Bob later though, so hopefully I can ask then :)

@RedRoses: I enjoy dub-only releases as a stop gap release. If it does well, it goes toward the release of the full version a little later or what not. More options are generally a good thing.

Plus, I'm all about the less than accurate mouth flaps. The writing is more personable, and most of us can engage in suspended disbelief.

RedRoses
on July 3, 2009
@John_Martone: Ahh well that's a problem for me. I don't want to feel obliged to buy a dub-only release to await another DVD release later on. I hate re-buying a series frankly... I'd rather wait for a full out release but then I get annoyed by how long it takes to become released. That sounds a bit hypocritical but I stand my ground. Somewhat. :]

I can't wait to see the Eureka 7 movie in theaters! >:D I don't like how they changed the title to what they did though since I like Pocketful of Rainbows better.

As far as Bandai is concerned, probably yes. Obviously pandering up to the hardcore sub fans again(no offense).  I was looking so  forward to hearing the dub of the Lucky Star OAV considering the good job the did on the series (imo).
