AV MOD MATERIAL: Quick Picks - 8/30/12

A little late this week but don't fret we've got this week's anime and manga releases listed here!

Welcome once again to Anime Vice's Quick Picks, where we tell you what to pick "quickly". My co-writers (who actually do most of the work) and I decided to limit ourselves to only picking one item per week. This way you can give your opinions, too, in the comment section.

takashichea's pick: I haven't tried any of these anime or manga releases, so I'll talk about Message to Adolf. The premise focuses on Sohei: a reporter who covers the Berlin Olympic games. One day, Sohei finds his brother dead and when Sohei investigates his murder, he finds all traces of his brother's studies (on Adolf Hitler) gone. It's the mystery genre thrown in with a bit of history that makes it interesting for me.

sora_thekey's pick: It was here on Anime Vice where I was introduced to one of my favorite, lighthearted anime, which just happens to be released this week on BD. I'm so excited that K-On! Season 2 Part 2 is there waiting on the store's shelf for me to pick. The anime focuses on a light music club that is embodied by four lazy girls who never play music. Oh but wait until you hear them play... that is, of course, if they ever stop eating snacks long enough to rehearse.

Oh, My Goddess!
Oh, My Goddess!

Bigheart711's pick: My pick for this week happens to be the Oh, My Goddess Manga because I begun reading it recently. So far, it's pretty good, but sadly, I don't have much else to say about it since Sora stole my pick and I'm only on the second volume. I've got a lot more reading to do from here on out...

Be sure to let us know what you'll be getting this week in the comments section below.

PS. I didn't steal BH711's pick. I called "dibs" first... he simply wasn't quick enough!

Always great to see K-On! releases, I hope it's not too long before the movie gets an English release.

Got my K-on! on. Now to question if they can get the movie.

So that's why Tom reviewed Texhnolyze, it's coming out again on dvd. My 2 picks of this "batch", Texhnolyze and Ergo Proxy, sohappens to be already on my dvd collection. anyone knows if these versions are any different than the previous ones? say, some extras or better picture quality?

I should try Ergo Proxy and K-on! I'm not sure about Texhnolyze because I remember reading Superevil225's blog or list on how bloody dark it was.

anyone knows if these versions are any different than the previous ones? say, some extras or better picture quality?

Is there any Ergo Proxy fans who know the answers to Shel's question?

Thanks for the support guys! Sorry for the late reply.

I remember watching part of the first episode of Tex and realizing it was far too strange for my taste. Very confusing show.

As for question, this new set is on DVD so I would bet the quality is just like the previous releases and the Classics line means it will be the series, some trailers, textless opening and ending, and maybe some other small stuff. The thing to remember is when a new set is released at a cheaper price than before, you lose extras like commentary and interviews. New sets are basically barebones (the series and that's about it).

shelson Sept. 4, 2012 at 7:38 a.m.

Thanks! i don't remember what kind of extras was in my ergo proxy dvd, but probably wasn't much more than that. In texhnolyze i think there's some extras like the english cast outtakes and such.
