AV MOD MATERIAL: Quick Picks - 8/21/12

Welcome back to the column where we tell you what you should (and should not) buy weekly.

This week on Anime Vice's Quick Picks we have bunnies, gods, aliens, samurai and much more. It's certain that when it comes to anime and manga, there is always a lot to choose from.

Special thanks to Bigheart711 and takashichea who did most of the work...

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

Bigheart711's Picks: I'm not very familiar with any of the anime this week, but I have read some Bamboo Blade, Dohedero and Soul Eater. Each of which I thought were decent. I haven't checked out Bunny Drop, Tenjo Tenge nor the manga version of Madoka Magica, but they sound the most interesting (plus, Gon looks cute). Lastly, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure's original fighting game got an HD remake and I know someone at my college that'll put a lot of people in the ringer the same way I did as Chie in Persona 4 Arena. The reason I mention it is because he still owns the Dreamcast copy of Jojo and has been kicking people's snot in, along with his (in-game) horse...

Shakugan no Shana
Shakugan no Shana

takashichea's Picks: I enjoyed the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime, which was recommended to me by BigHeart711. I would love to try reading the manga adaptation though. I have never tried watching the Shakugan no Shana series (although Daniel, sickVisionz, Buhssuht, and I have discussed the tsundere characters for some of the mash-up blogs) or Bunny Drop, so I'm interested in trying them out. Plus, Soul Eater andBamboo Blade are on my little sister's reading list. As for everything else, I haven't tried it or I have no interest in it.

sora_thekey's Picks: Unlike my comrades above, I don't have a lot to say about this week's releases. I do agree with Bigheart711 that Gon's manga cover is incredibly cute! Also, a new volume to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya manga, a franchise I greatly enjoy and can't go without mentioning, is released.

Your turn!!

I feel like my fight stick gives me the evil-eye every time I sit down in-front of the TV. As if it's trying to tell me "play more fighting games!". So i'm still thinking about getting P4A or Jojo's Bizarre Adventure >.>"

No. 6 was a nice short sci-fi. Nothing amazing, but pretty well done overall. Hmm maybe it's time to check out the Bunny Drop manga, having watched the series already.

I don't think we did, but if we're missing any more anime-themed games from this week, please let sora_thekey know (because neither me nor Taka can edit articles).

What is No. 6 about? I remember liking the promotional art but other than that I don't know much about this series.

AURON570on Aug. 22, 2012 at 4:37 p.m.

@sora_thekey: No. 6 is a sector of a large city in the future. All the citizens wear ID bracelets that store personal information and allow the government to track them. Shion is a smart but naive young boy. One night he helps a boy fugitive, named Nezumi, out of good will, but the government finds out and bans Shion from going to school. 4 years later he starts noticing some strange deaths, and the government tries to shut him up. Then he runs into Nezumi again, and they escape No. 6. Which is when Shion starts finding out the truth behind No. 6.

Honestly the story isn't that great and it doesn't wrap up in the best way imaginable, but it's presented well enough, the characters are likable and interesting enough, the art and music is pretty nice, and it provides some good food for thought.

You should definitely check it out if you're looking for a light sci-fi. I think I wrote a blog a while ago about it erm...here. o3o

Genocidal Organ and No. 6 share some similarities with the government trying to track everyone down.
