AV MOD MATERIAL: Quick Picks - - 4/9/13

A rather special Quick Picks this time, since a fan favorite of ours ended so soon. Yeah, one of us is still crying. :(

Welcome to this week's Quick Picks! There was a sudden turn of events in the following days as well as a few interesting releases. As you can tell, I'm also sad to see the Fairy Tail anime get cancelled, but the manga version should be able to keep us from crying, right?

No? Okay. TT_TT

Anyway, let's see what happened over this week and because of his hard work, Taka goes first!

Takashichea's Pick

My Quick Pick would be Fairy Tail since the anime has ended on March 30. Though, Hiro Mashima mentioned to wait until he makes an announcement. I have been watching Fairy Tail since I created my Anime Vice account. It has its ups and downs, but I had warm memories working with my teammates on the wiki project, AnnaBanana, Wales, Obsidian609, and Daniel_Newton.

Bigheart711's Pick

My pick for this time happens to be Emma. I read the manga version's story years ago, and had this on queue for a while now, but I intend to see it sooner rather than later. It happens to be a love story, but hardly ever ends up being generic at all on either version (or so I've heard).

Well, that was everything we can let out. So, what will you pick?

Complete Digimon box sets!!!! I think I've bluntly told everyone here in the site that I'm a Mon-oholic, so it's no surprise this gets me excited. It would be so much better if it came out in Blu-Ray... Still, this is exciting!

Anyone want to buy it for me???

Daniel_Newton moderator on April 9, 2013 at 8:02 a.m.

The English version of the Fairy Tail manga is still pre-timeskip? That's... crazy. It's like 12 volumes behind or something!

AURON570on April 9, 2013 at 11:30 a.m.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0! Go go go! I almost wanted to cry during that, great series. It's a fairly mature look at what might happen if Tokyo was hit by a magnitude 8 earthquake. The series follows 2 kids who were caught in the city during the earthquake, and try to make their way back home.

Amagami SS+ was a reasonably good continuation of the first season. If you are interested in a nice romance adaptation of a visual novel, definitely watch the first season first.

Also does this mean Fairy Tail fans will be looking to start watching another big anime?... LET'S CONVERT THEM ALL TO ONE PIECE! >=D haha I kid..

I've been considering that for a long time, especially with Tom covering One Piece episodes on the front page. Not that I'd stop following Fairy Tail though, I'm still reading the manga.

I've been thinking about getting back into Naruto too, though...

I started watching Attack on Titan that was a new anime series for spring 2013. I might check out the manga after it finishes airing 15 out of 25 episodes to avoid being spoiled.

My little bro is still addicted to card games. Every time we go to the library, he checks out Yugioh books. Oh I see they have Library Wars. My little sister loves that series.

@sora_thekey:

It has been a while since I watched Digimon. I stopped at season five where there was a crazy guy smacking Digimon with his fist to digivolve his Agumon. I thought that season was like Gundam G.

@Daniel_Newton: @AURON570:

That actually happened to me. I was looking for a Shonen series to fill the void Fairy Tail left. I'm watching One Piece but not from the beginning. I'm watching the Amazon Lily arc where Boa Hancock was first introduced.

Daniel_Newton moderator on April 9, 2013 at 6:12 p.m.

@takashichea: I couldn't do that, I'd feel like I'm missing out on stuff if I didn't start from the beginning. If it's long that just means I have plenty of material to keep me busy.

@Daniel_Newton:

Oh, I forgot to mentioned I went on manga binge for One Piece back in June of 2012. I never tried One Piece, so I went all out and read the manga all the way to Skypiea. I should have picked up from where I left off.

sora_thekey moderator on April 10, 2013 at 6:05 a.m.

@takashichea: I haven't watched past Season 5. But a bit back I went back to episode one and literally just marathoned up until I finished the 5th series.

That's the exact same reason I haven't begun Fairy Tail... I tried the first episode and liked it, but realized all of the catching up to do I would have to do. So I just dropped it.

It can be intimidating but I still think it's better to have lots of episodes to watch rather than just a handful. Since you like the first episode, if I were you I'd just watch an episode or two whenever the mood takes you or you have some time to kill.

For a while I've been watching Star Trek: The Next Generation from start to finish and I tend to watch an episode or two at the end of the day, it's great. I actually wish there were MORE episodes, I'm running out!

I'll go back and watch One Piece from the beginning. Got to support those Watch and Learn articles.

Daniel, I'll meet you at the Dragon Ball Z articles.

I'm not into gore, but when you up the level of violence to a ridiculous degree with weapons, fire, and super punches and have nary but a dirt mark and bruises, it kind of takes me out of it. After episode 70 or whatever were the guy comes back from being crystallized(been awhile so I don't recalled everything) I just stopped watching.

I was already irritated when that guys son went full on destructor and.......nothing, no real repercussions, I felt ripped off. That said I really did like the universe and it's characters and really wanted it to go places, but whatever others still enjoyed it.

AURON570on April 10, 2013 at 6:29 p.m.

@Daniel_Newton: @takashichea: Well in reality, about 50 of the first 230 episodes of One Piece are filler. The One Piece Wiki has a pretty good episode guide, highlighting exactly which eps are filler.

Personally I watched every episode because I'm weird like that. But speaking from experience, you're not missing much by skipping the filler.

@sora_thekey: Yeah imo, it's never too late to start a series. I stopped worrying about "catching up" ages ago. I'm at around episode 250 now with One Piece haha.

Daniel_Newton moderator on April 10, 2013 at 7:02 p.m.

@AURON570: I'll keep that in mind but I generally enjoy filler anyway. The only time I wish I'd skipped filler episodes would be the Bount arc of Bleach. I think at the time I wasn't aware it was filler, oh if only I'd known...
