AV MOD MATERIAL: Quick Picks -- 09/19/12

I just love the smell of new anime and manga releases! Don't you?

Tired of buying anime not worth the price? Well, Anime Vice's Quick Picks can help you with that! This is the column where we recommend anime and manga for you to buy. From virtual worlds to endless wars, this week there's a lot to choose from.

Fate/Zero
Fate/Zero

takashichea's Pick: Fate/Zero was an awesome anime. I got to watch the whole series on Crunchyroll, so I won't be buying the whole set. The first season starts out slow, but when you get to second season, the drama, the disillusionment, and the action heat up very quickly. I love the relationships between the masters and their servants (heroic spirits). For those who tried Fate Stay Night, you should definitely watch this anime. For those who haven't, you won't miss much.

The Holy Grail War - in this ultimate battle field, in order to obtain the power of the "Holy Grail" that grants any unattainable wish, seven "masters" summon "servants" and fight against each other until the last one survives.
After three inconclusive Holy Grail Wars, the fourth battle has finally started. Hoping to win the battle, each master is heading to the new battlefield, Fuyuki. However, there is a man who is confused and struggling, unable to find meaning in the war. His name is Kirei Kotomine. He wonders why he has been appointed to this task, but without any answers, he encounters his archrival - Kiritsugu Emiya, a master who craves the miracle Holy Grail most of all.
The untold truth of the Fourth Holy Grail War that occurred 10 years before Fate/Stay Night - the truth of the battle fought by Shiro's adopted father, Rin's father, and young Kirei Kotomine - is about to be revealed!
Contains episodes 14-25, including unaired new footage.
Alison and Lillia
Alison and Lillia

Bigheart711's Pick: My pick this week is Alison and Lillia. This is one of the anime I haven't seen yet that catches my interests for some reason. It's about two war soldiers (a male/female couple) that also end up obtaining the assistance of the daughter of war veterans and her boyfriend just as the 130+ year war happened. This is all in a world that's halved by mountains and rivers. Hopefully, I won't end up regretting my decision to watch it.

On a world literally split in half by mountains and rivers, a series of wars have been waging for longer than history can remember, with the latest incarnation now in its 130th year of continuous conflict. But when a hastily staged rescue attempt launches fighter pilot Allison and marksman and bibliophile Wil into the middle of the action, it initiates an incredible chain of events that could possibly end the wars forever!
But Allison and Wil can't do it all alone, and sometimes the torch has to be passed to the least likely of heroes. When Lillia, the daughter of two war heroes, goes off on a vacation, the last thing she's expecting is to have to rescue planeloads of orphans, dodge assassins, and unravel a network of twisting plots and secret identities! But a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, and even if her boyfriend is literally turning out to be a royal pain, Lillia's going to stand by her prince now that he's come!
Contains episodes 1-26.

sora_thekey's Pick: I'm going to pick an obvious one here. The first collection of Persona 4: The Animation is out this week. Which means that they are probably sold out by now. I'll be honest with you, I haven't watched the anime, but here on Anime Vice, the buzz for that show is huge! Nick Robinson had this to say about the anime: "It feels like the creators had some really solid ideas of how to take [...] Persona 4 and turn it into a good anime drama, and I think they executed on those concepts spectacularly". What more is there to say? I need to get this!

When Yu Narukami moves to the country town of Inaba to stay with his uncle and cousin, he's expecting a lot more peace and quiet than he's used to in the big city. What he isn't expecting is for his uncle's job as a police detective to spill over into his own life, or for the murders that are occurring across town to be somehow linked to Yu's own strange experiences, odd local weather patterns, and a mysterious TV show world that seems to be attempting to get Yu to enter it!
Now, together with a new group of friends, Yu must plunge into a bizarre alternate reality where he gains unique abilities that will either help him solve the riddle of the mystery killer... or lead him to his doom.
Contains episodes 1-12.

Persona 4 anime is pretty damn good.

Well I do like the smell of fresh plastic when I get a new video game, if it's like that then sure!

Nice picks, I like the format you guys are using for this stuff.

Petiewon Sept. 19, 2012 at 3:58 p.m.
Huh I didn't know they did an Edgeworth manga. Is it similar to the Phoenix Wright one where it's new cases rather than a retelling of the games?

Fate Zero is a great series. Box set is far too expensive though, I guess they wanted to reduce reverse importation?

Nothing for me this week, I've got the New One Piece game coming!

@Daniel_Newton: Thanks.

@metalsnakezero: I really need to watch that series!
