The wheels of chaos begin to spin ever faster on Dressrosa, but what is the dark mystery of the tournament that is buried deep blow?
Eiichiro Oda's more recent medical issues have been fairly well documented, and the series has had so many breaks this year. I have to imagine that this endangers the ONE PIECE publishing schedule of four volumes in a year. While reading this week's chapter, I couldn't help but notice that so much is going on that I'm left wondering if this is Oda trying to catch things up just a bit. It certainly makes it hard to review with the plethora of subplots dropping on nearly every page.
The only thing I can hope to do is narrow in on the questions this chapter raises for myself. Firstly, who is this person that would inspire such animus in Law for Doflamingo? Why does Violet shoot out the video of Rebecca's fight? Is Rebecca really an Observation Haki user?
The biggest criticism of this chapter is its lack of focus. However, that doesn't mean what we see isn't entertaining. Oda's character humor makes even the most mundane moments smile-worthy. You're likely going to latch on to some subplot here. I just wonder where the next chapter will decide to focus on, or will it be as frantic as this week?
For as much as I've criticized NARUTO and BLEACH recently for their slow pacing, ONE PIECE has a hard swing in the other direction. Don't be under the impression that I think this is a bad chapter. It's an entertaining read, but it lacks direction. As such, not a great deal is coming out of this issue. You're going to be left with more questions than answers.
