Everyone run! Run for your lives!! I've tried to warn you! Why didn't they believe me! The ONE PIECE cast will become so large it will one day rip a hole in the universe like a collapsing star, and this chapter has well put us on that path. - - Okay, melodrama over.
In all seriousness, I honestly think that Oda-sensei has broken some kind of record this week for most characters introduced in a single chapter. This starts to support my theory that Oda must have a name for every person who has ever appeared in the panels of his creation. I can just imagine him sitting at his table drawing this chapter and chuckling to himself about the joke Saya-chan (Ch. 706 Pg. 5 Panel 1 on the left) made last week at brunch with her friends.
A straw hat off to Oda for actually making me interested in this twist to Bellamy. I was prepared to watch him just become another punching bag for Luffy to knock around, but he seems to have grown since their previous clash on Jaya. He knows who Luffy is right away but strangely shows no interest in outing him. This was a particular touch that I enjoyed. I like that Bellamy isn't such a bumbling buffoon that he would be fooled with a Clark Kent level of disguise. It's one thing to fool people who've never met you, but an entirely different beast when it comes to someone you've crushed with a single punch. Bonus points to anyone who remembers that golden pillar mentioned this chapter.
I can't believe that so much of the chapter from last week was spent on building up Bartolomeo as some tough bad-ass, and we finally see that he looks like some sort of Anne Rice reject. I really want to see Bellamy clobber this obnoxious punk. Oh lord,......I'm rooting for Bellamy. Oda, what have you done to me?
I was unsure about turning the attention away from the rest of the cast so soon after what we saw last week. Especially given how many of those side stories left off at such dramatic cliffhangers. However, this is looking to becoming something closer to the Royal Rumble of manga. We have Face and Heel characters all around. Some have grudges, some want the title, and others want the prize. The Flame-Flame Fruit really has become like the suitcase at the top of a ladder match. I wasn't interested in the tournament at the beginning, but now you've grabbed me, Dressrosa Arc.
