We're in transition between arcs as Punk Hazard is closing. Shockingly enough, I thought the merry band of pirates would set sail straight for Kaido, but they first have business on Dressrosa, Doflamingo's home base. That has some exciting possibilities seeing how the flamboyant warlord is a fair bit cross withTrafalgar Law, and his crew is there and waiting. It's been a long time since the crew has headed anywhere with an intention of conflict. They normally stumble into it. This could very well lead into theNew World edition of the Baroque Works Saga.
Ever since Doflamingo was revealed, the source of his power to control has been highly suggested, but it's never been so graphically depicted until now. This marks the first time that Oda has ever revealed the strings he uses to control and slice. On top of that, the crime boss is shown to be a haki user. However, I don't think he's strong enough -- or foolish enough -- to think he can match the power of Kuzan.
Man, Smoker has just gotten beaten up this entire arc. Loses heart to Law, defeated by Caesar Clown, beaten to a pulp by Vergo, and finally sliced up by Doflamingo. While I'm talking about one of my favorite Marine commanders. His conversation with Doflamingo is confusing. He addresses the warlord as his secret name, Joker; but then acts as if he doesn't know about Vergo being a traitor. It's a peculiar mixed message.
It was a great chapter, but it felt that some of the best parts were cut short. Don't get me wrong. I got some great laughs, and that reveal at the end was incredible. I'm left wondering, how did Kuzan know to even head for Punk Hazard to begin with? Did someone tip him off? There wont be a ONE PIECE review for next week since the series is on break. In that time, what choice do you think Doflamingo will make? Will he back down or risk a battle with the powerful former admiral?
