Saban Brands Acquires Digimon Anime Brand

Remember those weekend mornings that you spent watching Digimon on FoxKids? Well, don't expect to relive those moments the same way because as of last month the Digimon franchise belongs to Saban Brands. We just got a DVD re-release of the first Adventure last week and according to the press release that isn't all:

“We’re thrilled to reconnect Saban Brands with Digimon, an entertainment franchise that embodies the strong fan base and growth potential we look for in new additions to our portfolio,” said Elie Dekel, President of Saban Brands. “We look forward to reintroducing the brand in new and exciting ways that will allow more fans to engage with Digimon.”

Saban Brands will debut the newest season, Digimon Fusion, at MIPCOM, which will be held Oct. 8-11 in Cannes, France. MarVista Entertainment has been appointed to handle international distribution (outside of Asia) of the new season, as well as distribution for more than 250 half-hours episodes of Digimon content from the library.

“We are naturally excited to further extend our relationship with Saban Brands to represent the Digimon franchise and to present the latest iteration, Digimon Fusion, to international buyers at MIPCOM,” commented Fernando Szew, Founding Partner and Chief Executive Officer of MarVista Entertainment. “Children worldwide have embraced the Digimon television series since its launch, providing strong ratings success for broadcasters around the globe, and we anticipate a lot of enthusiasm from current and new partners who will undoubtedly want to play a key role in the continued growth of the Digimon franchise."

So, I'm expecting more DVD releases and of course the NA premiere of Digimon Fusion (Digimon: Xros Wars). Digimon was my introduction to anime so I really hope the new distributors do the franchise some good.

Sket Dance OAD Announced

The anime is over but the stories are not. "Kenta Shinogara's Sket Dance manga will bundle an original video anime (OVA) next spring." This was announced at the "Sket Dance Premium Event: Kaimei High School Festival After-Party" last week.

There's not much information on the OVA but Shueshia's Weekly Shonen Jump is sure to provide more info later on. Any Sket Dance fans out there?

Madhouse Brings Back Iron Man Anime

Do you remember the Iron Man, Blade, X-Men and Wolverine anime series that Madhousedistributed last year? Well, whether you love them or hated them Madhouse is simply not letting go of its Marvel properties.

Madhouse will be releasing a full-length animated feature that stars Iron Man, Black Widow, War Machine, Hawkeye and Punisher. The anime movie will be titled Iron Man: Rise of the Technovore. From what I can see, this adaptation is trying to mimic some of the best aspects of Marvel Studios latest record breaking hit. Here's the movies's synopsis:

After Stane unleashes a terrorist attack and sets Tony up to take the fall, Iron Man must evade S.H.I.E.L.D.’s man hunt and find a way to clear his name.

Oh cool! I didn't know they have another Avatar the Last Airbender trilogy. I would definitely buy this and it's by the same guy who wrote The Promise trilogy.

In addition to the Digimon nostalgia, it would be awesome if they bring back Medabots.

I didn't know Sket Dance had a OVA adaptation. Thanks for the info. A lot of folks over at Sket Dance Wikia were commenting if Sket Dance is ending or is on hiatus. I'm pretty optimistic that the show will come back since the manga is still ongoing.

@Halberdierv2: @takashichea: I highly doubt Sket Dance's anime will end soon. This was a very popular show... They have to keep it going. At least for now we have the OVA to look forward to.
