Alright, this is how Kishimoto should be mixing story and action. Last chapter, the battle for the fate of reality was interrupted by a flashback of a bunch of old guys arguing over a table. This chapter focuses on the will of the alliance to support Naruto.
Easily my favorite among these scenes is Shikamaru's desire to stay alive to be Naruto's Hokage adviser. To be the Tobirama to his Hashirama. In a way, to be his brother. Last week, I was annoyed by the meaningless comparisons of characters, but it's the sentiment behind this that makes it far more moving. Naruto's motivating Shikamaru into action by his example.
The thing that confused me was the two pages that only showed random members of the Shinobi Alliance getting fired up. While I understand the purpose, why not add in a few of NARUTO's random cast in the mix? There are a lot of characters that have been AWOL for quite a while in the series.
The level of sentiment is certainly rising, and this fight seems to be coming to an end. That's worth celebrating. However, don't think I didn't notice that this is continuing the cycle of one chapter of action and two of exposition. A veritable one step forward, two steps back pacing. It just didn't bother me this time since the emotions and motivations felt far more natural this time.
