Naruto #598 - Into Pieces
In a Nutshell
Naruto and Tobi's battle goes just like Tobi vs the Minato Namikaze: Tobi seems impressive but goes down easier than a drunk porn star on set once his power is discovered.
High Points
- Some cool looking frames involving Naruto.
- This should be a pretty great fight once animated.
Low Points
- We still don't know who Tobi is.
- Tobi kinda sucks once anyone discovers how his powers work.
Rants and Raves
Super boo hiss at absolutely no progress being made in revealing Tobi's identity. I mentioned earlier that this should all be pretty awesome once animated but I feel like it's dragging on for too long in manga form. Yeah, Naruto did some Neo "No" type of stuff that was pretty cool but for the past few weeks it's been nothing but Tobi and Naruto clash, Kakashi does Kamui to help Naruto land a hit, and it ends in a who is Tobi? moment. When are they going to answer that question? In the anime this whole rumble might last one or two episodes, which is perfect. When you stretch it to a month of manga releases though, it gets tiring. Also, it made for a dramatic end but LOL at a supercharged rasengan from Kyuubi-trenchcoat Naruto apparently only packing enough punch to break a wooden mask.
Grade
This chapter was a B-. There was some cool fighting in the chapter but after so many weeks of anticipation I'm no longer interested in cool moves. Who is Tobi? Tell me that and I'll be cool with however many cool moves they want to throw in afterwards.
William Taylor is definitely a person and, rest assured, he does stuff in places as well. Unlock the mystery on Twitter@mrsickvisionz.

Don't give Naruto too much credit, Minato defeated Tobi rather quickly and without help. At least this time I can accept Naruto landing a hit. I would never have liked this battle if Naruto alone defeated Tobi.
I wonder how many tricks Tobi has left though. He could easily teleport away right after being hit.
I'm actually putting some money down on Tobi being Rin. Obito feels too obvious. We never have had an explanation as to what happened to her. I just feel like any answer is going to screw with our database.
At least there isn't a break after this chapter.
I bet Tobi regrets letting the main characters have a whole chapter to talk among themselves about how his powers work.
my response to the last page was "Kishimoto is a Troll!!!! He must be learning from Kubo."

If he was learning from Kubo, the next month of chapters would be focused on Sasuke and Orochimaru or Madara vs the Kages with no resolution to who is Tobi in sight.

No way, that is the best part of being a shonen villain. Villains love to wait for the moment when they can say "you may have figured out my powers, but you will not defeat me."
