AV MOD MATERIAL: Fall 2012 Anime Season Preview

What's the autumn season without a little (or a lot) anime? Answer: Nothing. So, check out this season's 35 new anime series!

Are you excited!? You should be because new anime series, OVA/OADs, specials and movies are on the horizon. (Note: This article contains Fall 2012's anime series only. Stay tuned for the next "seasoned" article listing the new OVA/OADs, specials and movies for this season.) There is a lot of different anime to choose from this season...

I, personally, am very excited for the third season of Bakuman. While I only follow the manga, as a fan of the franchise I must love all of its properties. As for non-sequels, new series I'm very interested in K. While the synopsis shows little promise, the visuals are quite fetching. Two other series on my "Must Check Out" list are My Little Monster and Blast of Tempest. Two series that, luckily for me, are being simulcasted on Crunchyroll. Now, take a look at the list below to find what you'll be watching this season.

Special thanks to Bigheart711 and takashichea (who did most of the work).

The table looks better than I thought! <3

Out of this list, I want to see Jojo, K, Litchi Hikari Club, Wooser's, Magi, Kamisama Kiss, Btoom!, and Tamagotchi Yume Kira Dream (and it's a lot on my plate, I know). I'll have to ponder on which to do weekly episodic reviews.

its supposed to be in the same universe, but are separate from each other. you may find more to do with chaos;head, I think.

also, I'd like to ask a mod to link the manga page of btooom with its franchise page please, it has the characters and whatnot already there.

@sora_thekey: I'm a shonen action fan and this season K, Psycho-Pass, and Code Breaker seem like they will be interesting.

Ever since I found out that Black Cat's creator did To Love Ru, I'm going to try To Love Ru then watch To Love Ru Darkness.

Any new series that caught your eye?

I'm looking to open discussion threads on anime series that are a hit.

Right now, I think K, Jojo's Bizarre Adventures, and Robotic;Notes are good shows to open discussion topics on them.

Acura_Max moderator on Oct. 6, 2012 at 7:21 p.m.

@takashichea: Here is a quick list of items I look forward to seeing. Chances are that I won't see them all, but I'll try to catch most of them:

  • Robotics;Notes - I hope Crunchyroll stimulcasts this one. I was so disappointed when they removed Steins;gate. Now the only legal place to watch it for free online is Funimation and they only have half the series.
  • Kyousogiga 2 - The animation for this one reminds me of Summer Wars and the trailers made it look pretty interesting in an Alice in Wonderland kind of way.
  • From the New World - The trailer looked pretty interesting.

  • Zetsuen no Tempest: The Civilization Blaster: No idea what this is about, but I have heard good thing when people talk about the manga.

takashichea moderator is online on Oct. 6, 2012 at 8:17 p.m.

@Acura_Max:

I heard of Steins;gate a lot around this community and its Dr. Pepper obsession. I have to try it soon. The trailer for From the New World is so strange. At least it's not like Psycho Pass where it provided no information.

  • Magi the Labyrinth of Magic - I'm trying it because my partner Annabanana was working on its wiki pages. Since Anna and I have common taste in shonen shows, I was intrigued to try this one. She got me into Beelzebub while her friend got me into Sket Dance.
  • Chuunibiyou - It had two trailers where one was creepy and the other one was cute. I'm interested in it.
  • Robotic;Notes - The thing that came to my mind when I watch the trailer was Robot Wars from Tech TV.
sickVisionz moderator on Oct. 7, 2012 at 12:41 p.m.
Not really interested in much other than Magi (because a tumblr friend raves about the manga and the animation studio is doing amazing work with Sword Art), Hayate (seen one episode and very glad that this doesn't suck like the movie), and Robo;No because of the animation studio and hopes that its good like S;G and not shitty like C;H.

I'm going to link this article to the new fall anime discussion threads.

Just from 1st episode impressions..

Btooom! was good .Could get great.

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai! was not bad at all.Better than i expected .

Code Breaker was not bad.Felt real um Shōnen .could be average to good.

Hayate the Combat Butler! Can't Take My Eyes Off You way better than expected.pretty good over all.

Little Busters lost intrest half way threw the 1st show!

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic (Magi) could be epic time will tell.

Onii-chan Dakedo Ai Sae Areba Kankeinai yo ne (OniAi) had its moments some were funny to.Odd Harem tho.

Shin Sekai Yori(From the New World) watched 1 an 2 an um animation is great .. story is out their.. average to good.

Sukitte Il Na Yo(Say "I Love You") was not bad at all.Felt kinda dark at times even tho no dark imagery .

Zetsuen no Tempest: The Civilization Blaster (Blast of Tempest) animation to story pacy was great.

Kamisama Kiss kinda felt old school animation but using computer gen models. liked its style over all.

Kif C.K. did anime this would be it.. it felt like it was a twisted anime version of a GQ cover shoot .Can animtion be to slick?Over styled? Still watchable tho.

New Trailers

I'll post any trailers we miss.

@Marshal Victory:

I'm hooked on Btooom and Magi. I dropped Chuunibyou when I found out it was a regular Slice of Life show.

Marshal Victoryon Oct. 15, 2012 at 12:47 a.m.

@takashichea: Chuunibyou could be considered a slice of life sure. I think its aim is more comedy ..maybe.Second episode was not bad tho.Btooom kinda reminds me of Sword art online.Which Sword art online season 2 was not on the list!?

Tonari no kaibutsu-kun was not bad at all comedy romance weird .But its animation style is not for everyone.

Robotic;Notes has a chance at epic but i have my doubts that it will get their. worth a watch.

Psycho-Passcould be the surprise of the season i think. The way the guns are used says alot more about things then i think the anime was intended to say.Good stuff.

Jormungand Season 2 I liked it .

Ixion Saga DT eh its eh.. not quite meh not quite bleh .Has its moments. Its taking some risks tho.Crying game 1st episode .. 2nd episode ball crushing action... eh.

Hiiro no Kakera Season 2 starting to feel like a twilight movie... that is never a good thing..ever.. unless your the writer making huge bank of bleh story that is.Really hope 3rd episode picks up .

Girls Und Panzerso far not bad.Not good either .hmm

Overall this season has more good to great than last season.

takashichea moderator is online on Oct. 15, 2012 at 1:33 a.m.

@Marshal Victory:

Oh, Sword Art Online season 2 wasn't on ANN and Crunchyroll's list. Regardless, I forgot to add it. I haven't tried Jormungand, and I heard it was like Black Lagoon. I haven't tried Black Lagoon either as well. Speaking of Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure has an old fashion but unique animation style from the whole group.

Marshal Victoryon Oct. 15, 2012 at 7:35 p.m.

@takashichea: From what i just read on hulu some one on chruchyroll ( sigh this feels like he said they said ) that their was a production error on Sword Art online after 14 delayed the show a week. But how many anime have 25 episode seasons any more?If you ever played a mmorpg you should check out Sword Art Online.

Next month the blue ray for Black Lagoon goes on sale .Thought so much of the 1st two seasons i pre-ordered it.With out spoiling it, if you liked Sin City the movie or the comics odds are you would enjoy Black Lagoon.Jormungand tho has a lighter touch here an their which makes its dark parts seem ever so with out light.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure animation was fine an all but the plot just ... Well i just do not like any of the characters.Animation style is interesting but not enuff to make me want to watch more.May be user error on my part .

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun on the other hand odd animation style most i think will not like. But the jokes swing from subtle to gonzo.I like the animation style tho.An i liked the plot for episode 1.Good fast pace set up.

The Pet Girl of Sakura Hall (Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo) just watched 1 an 2 have to say probably some of the best use of computer animation fit to style of the anime. An well story is pretty good to.This anime season will cut down my free time .I do believe that is a good thing .
