AV MOD MATERIAL: BLEACH Ch. 543 Review

I think I'm suffering from the literary equivalent of whiplash.

Yhwach appoints Uryu Ishida his successor. Many object and some just accept it. That's literally all that happened.

The Good

If things had been too exciting for you these past few weeks, and you wanted a break. I guess this chapter could appeal to you.

The Bad

How does this work?
How does this work?

Wow, did someone get the number of that semi that rear-ended BLEACH and completely knocked it off that incredible streak it had been on? We're completely dragged away from all the incredible revelations with Ichigo for 'this'. Most of the chapter is spent formally introducing characters that had already been introduced earlier in the series.

I'm still unclear about who/what the Vandenreich technically are. Yhwach describes Uryu as the last surviving member of the Quincy -- somehow forgetting his father. If that makes the Vandenreich spirits, similar to Soul Reapers; how did Yhwach gather each and every one of them without the Soul Society catching on? This seems to fall into the loopholes of Kubo's version of the afterlife.

Verdict 1/5

I'm completely unsure of who this chapter was targeted toward. Even if you're an Uryu fan, I don't see how you'd enjoy this chapter. He doesn't say a single word. For weeks this series has been on fire, then this happened. I honestly don't think I've ever read an issue ofBLEACH that has been this uneventful and cliche. Not even a bit of comedy to add some level of entertainment. Hang in there, BLEACHfaithful. I still have faith that things will get back on track soon enough.

With a boring chapter like this Kubo at least got a lot of stuff out of the way. He better be setting up Ishida to do something REALLY cool.
