The Titans will attack the Marvel Universe!

There’s a 9/10 chance this crossover was hatched after enough jokes about how similar the 3-D gear gimmick is to web-slinging…

Marvel comics’ talent scout, C.B. Cebulski (a guy who’s a big enough Japanophile that his blog’s called ‘Eataku’) has revealed that ATTACK ON TITAN will be showing up in the Marvel Universe quite soon. Judging by the image provided, the titular titans will be attacking New York City, and no less than Spider-Man will be the one fending them off.

He revealed this over a series of tweets...

  • I loved "Marvel Team-Up" and "What If?" as a kid. I would spend hours dreaming up my own crossovers & alternate reality stories. (cont.)
  • As I got more into manga, I always imagined how cool it would be for the Marvel characters to cross into the pages of manga worlds. (cont.)
  • For many decades & multiple reasons, almost no manga, especially popular titles, crossed into other comic universes... until now! (cont.)
  • If you ever wondered, "What if the titans from Hajime Isayama's "Attack on Titan" attacked the Marvel universe?", you'll find out soon!!
  • Not a joke, folks. Attack on Titan and the @Marvel universe are crossing over! In 2 weeks. In Japan. Want a teaser?

Between this, MARVEL DISC WARS and the BIG HERO 6 manga, it looks like these pan-pacific team-ups are increasing in frequency. And the weird part is, this actually makes a lot more sense for Spidey than the tokusatsu/manga series where he got that Leopardon mech.

Supposing these crossovers do keep happening, which battle threads would you like to see answered in an official capacity? Despite years of speculation, we’ve only ever seen the Goku vs. Superman question answered in fan articles and videos. And L from DEATH NOTE is enough like the Japanese Batman, we’d love to see him match wits with the actual Batman. What say you, though?

I think this is actually a cool idea. It may open the door to future crossovers with comics and manga

I heard about this yesterday, and it still seems like an incredibly bizarre mixture. I find this combination especially perplexing. You have ATTACK ON TITAN, where they make no qualms about ruthlessly killing off anyone; then you have SPIDER-MAN, where everyone keeps coming back from the dead.

Marvel comics seems to be stretching for ideas recently. Every big event they've announced for next year is just a repeat of previous events.

I'm not really for manga and comic crossovers. I'm not a fan of crossovers in general. It's just one of the reasons I dropped out of comics almost completely, except Fred Perry's GOLD DIGGER. I'm especially glad that I got out of comics before they decided to bring back Gwen Stacy. Alternate universe Gwen or not. That's like bringing back Uncle Ben.

The thing I like about manga is that they're more often isolated worlds and stories unto themselves. It makes them stronger stories. Comics too often try and combine every title they publish to give the illusion of having a larger universe. That path just leads to constant reboots.

I don't really mind manga on manga crossovers, because they're always just short one-offs meant for laughs. I think the reason we never really see manga/comic crossovers is partly because the Japanese publisher doesn't see the benefit in it for them. ONE PIECE alone outsells all the titles of Marvel and DC combined.

It sounds rather bizarre and potentially unworkable. I think the titans are sort of inextricably linked to their setting, so that if you pull them out of that, they lose much of their value and appeal. I can't imagine they'd seem all that threatening in the Marvel Universe given what so many of the characters there can do. The absence of the "humanity on the brink of extinction" backdrop probably diminishes it a bit too. I'm also not sure if another artist could get across the creepiness of the way Isayama renders the Titans.

Still, I'm willing to give it a shot, as it'll at least have some decent novelty value.

FoxxFireArt, I can't imagine this'd be anything other than a quite self-contained cross-over, so I doubt a lot of the usual misgivings about cross-overs won't apply. It'll be more like where 2 manga series have a cross-over and don't affect one another's continuity.

Marvel is trying to get its foot in the door more so than leg into this market. Anime will never be main stream unless it gives up being anime an just animation. An Marvel or DC will never dig deep into manga fans pockets for the reasons that they are Marvel an DC.

Would not panic over this but would be interested to learn how this came about Attack on Titan side. Who thought this was a good idea an why?

I wonder, do titans ignore aliens? They ignore all other animal, and only attack humans. Either way, I think is a cool and random thing. Crossover are always fun

it seems like that marvel guy is joking. I mean comn on. There are many legendary anime besides Attack on the Titan which should be crossovered. Also if there will any crossover released, fans of many other anime, for ex : Bleach, Naruto, Fullmetal or Dbz, will demand crossover for their fav. animes too. I doubt this will happen :/

I don't mind this crossover. I heard about Marvel What Ifs such as the Deadpool kills everyone. I wanted to read them but didn't get a chance to do it.

Peter Parker and Levi at each other's throats. Make it happen!
