ATTACK ON TITAN #9 - - Watch & Learn

Yeah, this show isn't afraid to go there.

An emaciated, half-formed skeleton giant, eh? I’ll go ahead and predict that Eren’s ability to Hulk-out into a Titan will come at the price of him needing a commiserate amount of fuel with a terrible price tag. That fuel might be actual flesh - - meaning he’ll have to chomp on a disgusting amount of Titans, cattle or * GASP * human beings - - or it might pure, unbridled rage (which would push the Hulk comparison even further, no?)

Typing all that out helps me process this twist a little better. Now that I’ve gotten past the initial surprise and had some time to think about it, it seems does seem more fitting as development. It’s a shock, to be sure, but not a cheap one, and it’s already given this saga an intriguing, ironic dimension. What’s exciting, and a little scary, to consider is that this will probably won’t be the last of the switchback turns in this show. Why, I’m predicting the plot structure’s going to look like a long, violent zigzag by the time we’re done.

I haven’t felt this way about an anime since… DEATH NOTE, actually, and that’s obviously no coincidence. This show even has the same kind of weirdly-specific dream logic as that show. (If other talent were involved, I doubt we’d have a scene that’d actually show Eren milling about in the bile-filled stomach of the Titan that swallowed him).

Actually, while it’s not substantial enough to be much of a prediction, I do suspect that this story’s weaving together some larger statement about professional competency. There was such a hoodoo about how the most able recruits were going to beats they were needed least in, already. Now, we’re getting an episode with the double whammy of an elite unit’s intro and some M.P. schmucks bothering our heroes because they’re too stupid to read the situation. I don’t know what the point is, yet, but TITAN’s definitely building up to it.

Watch this episode, "The Left Arm's Trace: Battle of Trost District" here and decide for yourself, then read my write-up on the previous episode here.

It's one thing to have incompetent characters, and it's another to have believable incompetent characters. That's how I felt about police in this episode. Sure, I don't think they were appropriately reading the situation, but considering what they've been though I could very much understand their anguish.

The viewer knows a lot more than the characters do so the characters are not as comfortable with what they see as the viewers should be.

Heres the thing about anime ,they will take themselves seriously. An thats why it works.Shows like Attack on Titan an DEATH NOTE just would not be took seriously by those kings an queens of entertainment in Hollywood.Which might be why they are havieng 250 million dollar flops that may crash the industry.

Also note how fast the pace the shows plot is here . Camera angles an subplots move right along. This shows world build happend as fast as well the 1st show.No need to tell it all .Let the story develop an they seem to understand that.Well these shows do any way.

Levi is bit like Eren. Both are ambitious on killing the Titans. Hanji Zoe was an interesting one. With everyone dying against the Titans in the last couple of episodes, you got these two characters who are insanely strong and confident. I love the scene where Armin is shocked when Eren says he will kill them all.
