While my opinion of the movie itself is currently being thumbed down till we get the video processed, nothing is stopping us from talking about how the did, box office wise. Opening 6th this weekend, the film made $7,017,000 across 3,014 theaters, and an estimated average of $2,328 per screen. While an unassuming 6th place ranking might seem good or bad based on your perspective, there are obviously a lot of factors to compare and contrast about these films.
Box office information via ANN
Ponyo (2009) earned US$3,585,852 in 927 theaters (US$3,868 average),
Dragonball: Evolution (2009) earned US$4,756,488 in 2,181 theaters (US$2,181 average),
Speed Racer (2008) earned US$18,561,337 in 3,606 theaters (US$5,147 average),
IMAGI's TMNT film (2007) earned US$24,255,205 in 3,110 theaters (US$7,799 average).
Either way, the film cost an estimated 65 million dollars to produce, so this is an probably an encouraging sign that the film will end the day as a success, though how successful is in question.
Alright, fine. I liked it, and Samuel Jackson's 3 line cameo made me giggle at the entirely unnecessary nature of it all. What did you all think?

I thought it was pretty awesome- well worth checking out, with some spectacular action scenes. It stayed true to Tezuka's spirit, and a lot of his plot/cast elements, used the classic english names [Mr.Mustachio!] that are in the manga and older anime adaptions, and even had a cameo by Tezuka [in his in-manga look]. A nice blend of the current CGI-style and his cartooning style, with some dashes of topical dark humour that reflect the material of the manga, especially in how robots are treated by society.
