You're the first person I've ever seen who is even aware that White Album exists. I thought that the main dude ended up going back with his original girlfriend though. I know he didn't end up with the rival pop star, who I was hoping he would since his girlfriend was kinda a lame like Hinata and didn't really have any personality to her.

I don't like uber ambiguous endings where you don't know or understand anything, but I don't mind ones that are open ended like the original FMA.

Series that have an annoying ending:

DRRR!!: Celty doesn't get her head back, after all she's gone through... she gets nothing.

Spice & Wolf season 2: They just leave the town in chaos, with no indication of where they try to go.

Canaan: Canaan and Alphard are thought as dead, Maria misses Canaan that much... only to reveal that Canaan is still alive and kicking, with barely a scratch and that she keeps fighting a crippled yet still-living Alphard instead of leaving her to die and rejoining Maria.

Persona 4 The Animation: The real ending is actually an OVA as a DVD feature. Talk about a trolling attempt.

That's all I can think off right now... What anime series should do is to end their season without a cliffhanger. Since it takes a while before getting a sequel, might as well for them to close each season properly to not disappoint the fans.

one of the series i hated the end of was the Beserk anime. Even though the manga is still going the way they ended the anime series had no resolute ending. Hopefully if they do remake the series it will hopefully follow the manga and get a decent enough ending. (even if the manga comes out only once a month)

    GokaiRedon Nov. 17, 2012 at 6:34 a.m.

Anime ending when they suck they really suck! I don't mind a lot of open ended stories or even cryptic ones but too many take the cake.

The Beserk ending too the piss, i mean really? After all that chaos we don't see how he could have possible escaped just some vague assumption with no clue that he had >:(

Wolf's Rain ending was a little annoying but only because it made me sad but technically it wasn't an ending at all, yes everyone died but then they come back reincarnated. The Hell?

Evangelion? I kind of got what both the movie and the series did but while the series was unsatisfying the "movie" was down right depressing. I mean the whole Adam and Eve thing, everyone's in liquid form in a kind of heaven the real world is purgatory (or something). And then there's that odd bit of translation that may imply Asuka's pregnant 0_o

The Big O, I love that anime but watching the ending confuses me to this day, I mean did anything happen at all that? Was Roger a robot? What was the stage? What, dammit?! i

Guyver ended at that point I wanted to see more it sorta felt like a conclusion but he just returned from the other dimension when the world went wrong and that's it, no great fight to win back the world, it's just over :(

A Kite, it wasn't only depressing but it raised a big question, "who the hell was she talking too"?

I don't prefer any particular ending i just want the damn things rapped up, happy is fine, depressing is fine but dammit don't pile it on or contradict the whole thing. Some ending are good if they finish one arc but then hint at something else (that may never come).

As for an acronym i think you already made one IJE's (pronounced Ij-e) Irresolute Japanese Endings.

for me, tenchi gxp, it feels like a good series that builds up, kid gets awsome mech, and the next episode the series is over....

trigun still has one of my favorite endings....

    Petiewon Nov. 17, 2012 at 5:18 p.m.
@GokaiRed: Huh, I literally just finished NGE for the first and got a completely different interpretation on the ending.
If you look at the TV ending and the movie ending as the same thing it's a lot more hopeful than depressing ending. Shinji rejects the easy life as goo because of all his experiences. He made friends and learned he could like himself.Asuka accepts Shinji at the end instead of rejecting him like he was afraid of. Everyone is able to remake themselves from the goo if they wish to, like Shinji and Asuka did.
I've never heard anything about purgatory or pregnancy.

The ending, for me, depends on the outcome and how things are settled. I hate loose ends.

When you're talking about the EVANGELION finale, which one are you talking about. A lot of the original ending had a lot to do with budget issues. That still didn't explain the weird characterizations, such as Shinji's father.

CODE GEASS ended with Lelouch dying, but the build up was to him sacrificing himself and making himself a villain of the world to save it.

A lot of irresolute anime ending can often be tied to a series being a manga. A lot of the times, such as with DEADMAN WONDERLAND, the anime is little more than an advertisement for the manga or light novel it's based upon. They give you the beginning, then if you want the full conclusion. You'll have to buy the rest of the story.

I think a lot of people are seriously unfair on PERSONA 4 THE ANIMATION. Remember that you get to watch the TV series for free. The anime gives you the Good Ending, and all they ask is that you buy the DVDs to get the True Ending.

    GokaiRedon Nov. 17, 2012 at 9:34 p.m.

@Petiew: I get the TV one but the movie was anything but hopeful if anything made the situation worse for all that died "hey, you want paradise? Well here, it isn't real though and you'll always know that, if you want to return to the chaotic REAL mess you left behind be my guest. No takes-backsies though..."

The whole Pregnancy thing is a theory left behind by some of the translations which I don't think has been refuted. In the eng-dub, Asuka says "how disgusting" probably referring to Shinj, one of the other translations reads as "i feel sick" or variation on that. It's Probably nothing but it's been floating about for years.

Well technically purgatory was that inner mind experience from both, he was neither alive nor dead, he was not in heaven, hell or earth rather somewhere in-between. Earth may have looked like hell but by the end i wouldn't no what to call it so purgatory kinda fits for me. :P

End of Evangelion is screwed up. Even more screwed up School Days. Giglamesh, L/R (Why they did that ending is beyond me), and others.

    LHWKnighton Sept. 25, 2013 at 1:18 p.m.

Who here thinks the forth movie of the rebuilds is going to be seriously fucked up, because I sure as hell do after seeing the third movie.
