Anpanman Composer Takashi Miki Passes On

A sad day for Japanese music.

The Mainichi reports that Takashi Miki, who you guys are most likely to know as the man who wrote the Anpanman theme song "Anpanman no March," but who also composed hundreds of tunes since his debut in 1967 (which was the theme for the Jack and the Beanstalk anime), died today in Okayama, Japan, of unspecified causes at the age of 64.

Miki wrote music for a wide variety of artists and styles, including enka and pop music as well as theme songs for Anpanman, Jack and the Beanstalk, and The Little Prince, and even for various events like the All Japan High School Soccer Tournament. He was awarded the Shiju Hosho, or Medal with Purple Ribbon, in recognition of his accomplishments and was also the administrative director for the Japan Composers Association.

Miki-sensei, you will be missed.
