That said, the headline is referring, of course, to Kaiji-- whose titular character is a fool for co-signing a friend's shady loan in the first place, and even more foolish for agreeing to get on board a boat designed to send him into indentured servitude via a ridiculously extended game of rock paper scissors.
Canned Dogs reports that the manga, which was adapted into an anime a couple of years ago, is being developed into a live-action movie due out October 10th, and that the manga is also going back into publication after a hiatus.
Also of note: Tatsuya Fujiwara, aka live-action Death Note's Light, is playing Kaiji (prosthetic nose? Pleeeeeease?), and the character of Endou, the yakuza loan shark who gets Kaiji on the gambling boat, has been changed to a female character who will be played by Yuuki Amami, who J-drama and movie fans willremember as Hikaru Genji in the film Genji: A Thousand-Year Love.
It'll be interesting to see if this resurgence in Kaiji media pushes forward the sequel anime, which Madhouse announced back in August at Otakon.
