@Marshal Victory: Marshall Victory, thank you for your diligence, your effort, and your good looks.
Also, I LOVED The Tick cartoon. Late night on comedy central at one point you could see old episodes... I always thought Arthur reminded me of George Kaztanza from Seinfeld.

Hey guys that was a really thought provoking conversation. Kudos. To summarize this whole thing go to the bottom Line.
I have noticed the verity of ways in which "synthetic" life in anime copes with existence however some of the most meaningful examples did not do this with factual or internal examination/reflection but with social interaction within the society that they "belong" to. We can label the definition robot, cyborg or android but that can be meaningless at times as a person can treat any of the three very differently.
In GIT 2nd GIG the treatment of the Think tanks(robots) varied from character to character. Some characters treated them as Tools some Pets Some as individuals( I think Batou). Cyborgs in particular we saw contrasting ideas were it would look completely organic and be human as you or I or even opposite to that and could be treated a such.
In Star Wars R2D2(robot) relationship with Luke skywalker was very similar to Batou's relationship with the tachikoma, They treated each other as almost equals where emotions were exhibited. ( I know Im stretching that)
For Androids I think Anime tends to introvert the character to force them to struggle internally with the society around them alienating them (I'm Soooo alone boohoo[Cashern,Kikider,) albeit a very human reaction. Boring at times and not really thought provoking
In Star Trek Data is a far more thought provoking character with his struggle of trying to become more human knowing that will never be possible. His interaction with various crew members go from lover, friend, robot(Dr.Polaski) or Tool, a far more gratifying experience. I cant really speak about his dancing but watching him trying to laugh or to get others to laugh is hilarious. Damn I wrote a crappy paper again.
The Bottom line:
My ancestors came to the New World on ships not of their free will, they were treated like machines and denied their true identity Human Beings. What makes a Robot more human is how the society around it treats them.
Please Keep the vids coming
The Big O covered the aspect of robots playing music too, 'A legacy of Amadeus' I think.
Is it me or was Kikaider the inspiration for VR troopers?
Anyway, Tima in metropolis technically suffered a nervous breakdown when she found out she wasn't human in the traditional sense, when she snapped out of it the question "who am I?" was left hanging. Cyborgs and Androids have the most important aspects of life which is comprehension beyond it's function.
