So it recently came out that TOKYOPOP probably has the license to Deadman Wonderland, a manga by Eureka Seven character designer Jinsei Kataoka. The story revolves around a teenage student who witnesses the slaughter of his classmates-- only to be blamed for their deaths himself.
The boy, Ganta, is transferred to the only prison left in Japan-- this is set in a rather grisly future, where 70% of Tokyo has fallen into the sea after a natural disaster --Deadman Wonderland. There, the prisoners run what is essentially a theme park for the public, earning money to purchase the things they need...including the antidote to the poison that every prisoner has been injected with. If you don't take one every three days, you'll die.
I've heard a fair bit of buzz about the manga, so I was pretty excited to hear that an anime based on the manga is now in the works! From what I've seen of the manga it's got a pretty strong visual component, so an anime seems like it could be pretty awesome. Here's hoping it gets a simulcast!
