Anime Gets Its Own Disney Takeover

Did not expect this.

Move over, Marvel-- Disney has picked up an even bigger name. That name? Naruto.

Not that VIZ doesn't still have the license, of course, but Disney's new cable channel Disney XD is going to start running Naruto Shippuden this October, potentially amassing a whole new generation of Narutards. At least, that's assuming that Disney XD watchers are happy to jump straight into Shippuden without watching the first series beforehand.

Now, before you go whining about how annoying some Naruto fans can be, consider this: many of today's awesome anime fans were, at some point, those annoying new anime fans who ran around trying to incorporate "kawaii" and "baka" into their daily lives. Bringing in new young anime fans will help official US releases of material continue to, you know, exist. Which isn't such a bad thing.

Though I confess I hope they've moved on to better shows by the time MY niece is old enough to be watching "real" TV, so to speak...

This is really odd, because if anything. The fights in Shippuden were more detailed and aggressive then the first season. Even CartoonNetwork edited the cartoon. They took out all the Tsunade breast jokes.

Disney XD must be really desperate to his their target demographic of boys 12-14.

I heard how Jetix in Europe was notorious for enough content edits to the first series compared to Cartoon Network's handling of it here in the states. So unless Disney XD is willing to push for TV-PG content, October's gonna be an interesting enough look at butchery for this series.

More butchered crappy anime.

Considering Disney picked up rights to air many films from Studio Ghibli, airing Shippuden could make or break anime having a shot to get some major mainstream exposure since Cartoon Network's not too seriously committed to airing it nowadays.

I don't know what to say really...in one hand the show could get royally butchered but then again in other maybe it wont and at the very least its coming back on the air! about time too stupid cartoonnetwork i don't know whats happened to them.

I guess there won't see any of Sai's penis jokes. I stopped watching the subs about a year or so ago anyway (cause it as sooo slow). I might watch this though. It will be a trainwreck.

Quit this show some time ago, to slow, to many boring fillers. Same thing with Bleach.

I finally decided to just follow the manga. That way I would also actually support the series as well.

Just starting with the "second" series though seems kinda wierd, was anything like this ever done with shows like Dragonball Z?
LordNephilimon Sept. 12, 2009 at 12:39 p.m.

Well one good thing that comes out of this is that Naruto characters might show up in Kingdom Hearts 3, along with Marvel comics characters. Just imagine the awesomeness of Sora, Naruto, and Spider-Man face off against armies of Heartless.
