And You Thought American Politics Were Weird

Now, in the US, we've had a few pop culture stars who became politicians. The obvious choices are Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger; those with longer memories may pull out Jessie Ventura, Sonny Bono, Fred Thompson, or Will Rogers Jr.

But in Japan, a female politician named Yuri Fujikawa has kind of done the opposite: she went out and made a video that includes, among other things, some lightly sexy swimsuit shots and the like. It seems pretty mild (the intro video doesn't have anything remotely interesting in it, so if that's what you want, don't bother).

Stippy's article features a lot of really interesting information on Japanese political culture (and this situation in specific), so you can consider this your “required reading” since I missed it yesterday.

If such thing would have happen in American politics, it would be for the delight and cynicism of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ann Coulter, and many political pundits. Of course, I will not forget Saturday Night Live which would lampoon it to the max just like Tina Fey did with Sarah Palin.
