And FUNimation's New License Is...

UNEXPECTED!

Confession: I'm actually writing this a bit early, sans FUNimation's new announcement, because I'm getting ready to be on 91.8 The Fan for an interview. When it's been announced I'll plug in the title and ship this off and everything'll be dandy, as long as it's not a title that makes me lose my shit on the show. Right?

...

...

IT'S FLCL. I JUST LOST MY SHIT. But the interview hasn't started yet, so it's okay?

Anyway, remember how FLCL was originally licensed by Synch-Point (aka Broccoli)? Well, apparently FUNimation is going to rerelease it, on DVD AND on Blu-Ray, in late 2010.

This is sexy, even though it is not Kaiba.

UPDATE: Press release.

UPDATE II: Current dub status is unknown. Will update you when I can.

Wasn't expecting this, but it'll be nice to see the DVDs more readily available.
giaon Jan. 6, 2010 at 12:24 p.m.
@Sigue: Definitely-- and I'm looking forward to having it on Blu-Ray, too.

Maybe show it to the office, too. Mwahaha.

Meh. I mean, yeah sigue is right. While it'll be cool to see it hitting the store rotation more, it doesn't feel like something "new" happened. Though Blu-Ray version would be cool.

Do want, just its not quite a "DO WANT"

I hope they don't re-dub it. I'll most likely get the blu-ray if it has the original dub.

@John_Martone: pretty much how i feel, granted i own it on dvd, not too interested in blu-ray, but really just meh.  confused at why everyone is in a fuss about it.

considering the loyalty I've seen to the english dub, I'd be surprised. Its no one piece... literally begging to be re dubbed.

Sweet I gotta pick up the dvds when Funi releases them.
giaon Jan. 6, 2010 at 2:53 p.m.
It's cheaper not to re-dub, and if everyone likes the original, why bother redoing it? Odds seem good to me that they'll keep the original if they can.

Not what I was expecting, but definitely a good license grab. Now I can get the series at a better price than $80 to $100 off Amazon.

It's a good series with really good music.
Dreamon Jan. 6, 2010 at 6:07 p.m.
@gia: Funi kept the original dubs to Gungrave, Last Exile and Love Hina intact when they acquired them. So FLCL will quite likely receive similar treatment. No complaints about this on my end since FLCL has one of the best dubs I've listened to in an anime.

Perhaps there's nothing new, but I want it!!!
giaon Jan. 6, 2010 at 9:22 p.m.
@Dream: More practically speaking: creating a new dub would probably not provide more value (read: more sales) for FUNimation. Those who would buy it with a new dub would probably mostly buy it with the original; the exception being people who didn't like the original dub, which seems to be a pretty small group.

Is this anime good, i know you shoudnt judge a book by its cover but is it all about music.
