Dear Whiskey Media Staff,

I know that except for Sara and I, Whiskey Media is a pretty guy-heavy company. In keeping, I thought I would invite you all to go with me to see the two film adaptations of the manliest, most over-the-top badass new anime in the last few years, Gurren Lagann.

Both the first and second (of 2) films are showing at the New People center, a small mall/theater in Japantown, San Francisco. It's two nights only: November 17th and 18th, a Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. The first movie starts at 5pm, and the second runs at 7:30 (with a ten-minute break in between). Of note: I believe this is the second film's US premiere; it was supposed to be shown at New York Anime Fest, but while at the show I heard it had been cancelled.

You guys may not pick up all of the references to old-school mech shows, but somehow I suspect that you'll enjoy the films anyway. Here are the trailers for each movie, courtesy of VIZ Media, who owns the theater (but has not, as far as anyone knows, licensed the films).

Anyone want to check it out with me?

Love,

gia

P.S. Anime Vice readers local to San Francisco should also check it out!

I'd love to go, but unfortunately I'm in Oregon, so it would be a bit of a drive to get there.

@Count_Zero: I feel you there @_@

@lordhaseo: It's not showing at regular theaters or anything; you'll have to keep an eye out for your local convention.

Ok, all I need to do is save up enough money for a flight, a taxi, a hotel room, the movie, food, and a return flight. I can totally do this. I mean do the impossible ,right?

@InfiniteGeass: SPIRAL POWER!

Man, I almost feel like we should rent a big hotel suite and have a pajama party =P

Sounds like fun, but being from Northern Kentucky it's a bit out of the way for a movie. Ticket prices for movies are bad enough, let alone airplanes. Though the companionship does make it sound tempting. Almost stronger then my open and well known opposition of the company this movie comes courtesy of.

I am making a tray of candy sushi tonight and I'm carving my Luffy pumpkin. I have a full night planned.

As soon as I master that spiral teleportation thing, I'll stop by.

Damn, Detroit might as well be in Austrailia too for the relative distances involved. It would be fun, an AnimeVice group get together at movie(s) like this. Shoot, I'll even bring in some snacks (M&M's, Sno-Caps, etc.) to sneak in for everyone!
