Amazon's Top Anime of 2009

What do you think about Amazon's top 10 list?

It's December, and you guys know what that means-- everyone in the world is going to offer up their lists of the top anime of 2009. Amazon's got its list up already, written by "contributor" Charles Solomon (and an animation expert; he's written several books, including Enchanted Drawings: The History of Animation). At the top of his list? Akira's Blu-Ray release from Bandai Entertainment. Here's the full list:
  1. Akira (Blu-Ray)
  2. Big Windup Part 1 (Our review here)
  3. Bleach Uncut Box Set 3: The Rescue
  4. Case Closed: Season Five Set
  5. Dragon Ball: Season One
  6. Evangelion 1.01: You Are (Not) Alone
  7. Naruto Shippuden Vol. 1
  8. Sword of the Stranger (Our review here
  9. Death Note Vol. 9
What do you guys think? I'm glad to see Big Windup so far up on the list, though I wish there were a couple other names that we see outside the top sales charts. What do you think is the most egregious omission (bearing in mind that this is North American releases for 2009)?

It seems like a good list. They covered all the imporant bases (I need to pick up EVA and Stranger)

I also purchased the bluray version of Akira, and Death Note 9.  I'm glad people like Evangelion, but I am NOT buying another rehash of that series.  Not that I have a problem with the other series, but I either haven't touched them yet or they don't interest me all that much.  I do intend to get into Shippuden...  Just have to finish up the original series first.

@Arjuna: I'm not super-interested in Eva 1.0 (hence the fact that the DVD is sitting right in front of me still unwatched), but I AM in the rest, because there are actual changes. I'm particularly interested in seeing how the new girl works out. ;)

Remove Bleach/Naruto and it's fine I suppose. But it's American, so I have no idea

Nice to see that Big Windup is getting some good recommendations.  I am also quite interested to see what the final sales list of the year will be.

Akira, makes sense to me.  That 's the one everyone knows about, regardless of how much you know about anime.
Conan, always a solid choice.
Death Note, I never watched after finishing the manga (in Japanese, which may have been the most exhausting undertaking I've ever done.  The thing is like giant blocks of text)

The rest aren't too surprising, but not really my thing.  I'm actually surprised Naruto wasn't higher, with the fanbase it seems to have in the states.

Dig Deeper into Akira

A classic animated movie adapted from the manga by Katsuhiro Otomo. This film is often credited as the trigger that gave rise to the growth of anime fandom in the western world during the 90's.
