Even if the upcoming live-action GANTZ movies were covered in a swarm of honey bees, I don’t think it could have more buzz than it has, now. Even if you weren’t impressed with their teaser or the various photos of their cast in ( and out) of their scandalously-tight leather outfits… the fact remains that Hollywood’s already knocking on these filmmakers' doors. That’s right, according to ANN, even though these won’t be released until early 2011, the filmmakers have already received inquires regarding the remake rights from mysterious entities in the United States and the United Kingdom (you might even say that they’re unified in their interest).
You know, I haven’t gotten the chance to read GANTZ yet, but the story looks pretty badass. It sounds like the kind of “high concept” premise that general audiences can grasp, while still allowing for the kind of complexity more seasoned fans want. Call it a hunch, though, but I get the feeling that if this does get remade, all the hardcore blood ‘n guts will be toned down. That, or they’ll save it for the extra-expensive unrated DVD.
How many of you lunatics in the Anime Vice community are frothing at the bit to see these GANTZ movies? Are you horrified or delighted by the possibility of seeing an even bigger-budgeted, but possibly compromised, remake produced stateside?

Hmm... I'm not a huge Gantz fan (never watched/read it) but I'm also not a fan of what Hollywood would do to it. I would enjoy a US release of the Japanese movie, but I'm not sure I'd like a US Remake. :\
The Manga is "too long and crazy", and because of that, I would be happy for any tipe of reimagining of the series. Even a Hollywood one.
This.
You might be right that it might be a water down verison of the anime and manga. We might get a PG-13 rateing and not the R one that it should get. Taking out all the blood and nudity and sex dosen't make it the Gantz movie that I want to watch.
