Oh, CAPTAIN HARLOCK. Along with the DORAEMON, this is the anime I had the earliest experience with, watching it on TV on Singapore. I suppose a magic, time traveling blue cat and space pirate make for an odd couple, but that’s how it shook down. I bring up the tacit man with the stylish coif, the handsome scar and the mysterious eye patch because Toei’s bringing him back for a computer-animated feature. Interestingly, according to the Anime News Network, they’re going to be prepping this movie directly for release in Western countries (I.E. America) when they complete it in 2012.
The other feature they’re putting together is DAIKUU MARYUU GAIKING, which I have to say I’m not familiar with. The promo pic we’ve got here makes it pretty clear that this is a sentai show where the Megazord and one of the Transformers’ Dinobots are either in league or at odds. Toei’s putting a big chunk of change behind both movies, with individual budgets ringing around several tens of million American dollars.
I’ll wrap this up by first asking if anybody else here is fan of Harlock (and the Doraeman, for that matter), and then, if anybody can fill me in this Daikuu Maryuu Gaiking show. I’m sure they’ll have to change the name of the later if they want it make some waves here in the US.
