3-Minute Expert: Dancing Anime

You think you know anime dances? Check THESE out!

We all know and love (or hate) Hare Hare Yukai, the ultra-popular ending theme to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, which came prepackaged with its own fairly simple but still kinda cool-looking synchronized dance. But Hare Hare Yukai wasn't the FIRST dancing anime craze. Here, I've documented just a *couple* of others...

Enjoy!

Now, there's no way we could cram EVERY dancing anime into three minutes, so I fully expect you guys to proffer suggestions for other dancing shows I could have included. Get to it!
John_Martoneon Nov. 21, 2009 at 8:50 a.m.
You look so belligerent about doing the carmel dance at the end. Now to candid camera you later.

Also, I didn't realize Kodocha was called anything else in Japanese. Only ever even heard of it in English. The show can occasionally crack me up though.

Anime Dance mainia sounds like a great DDR game.
as a person who gets weirded out by a lot of stuff in anime these 3-minute experts are welcomed.

I like how the topics are of the slightly obscure subjects. Stuff I always knew were around but forget to look up. Great work putting them into bite-size pieces of knowledge.

And Gia's serious tone for the caramelldansen sequence really punctuates the ridiculousness of that dance meme.  How anyone can do that for more than two seconds blows my mind.
constanzadellarosaon Nov. 21, 2009 at 10:21 a.m.
OMG... that Kodomo no Omocha opening is kinda wacky (like the series), but I like it.

Hare Hare Yukai and Caramelldansen shall haunt me in my nightmares forever and ever.

This has to be one of my fave features by far! I love the AnimeVice Library of Win on the green screen. I actually don't know the entire Hare Hare Yukai dance--bits and pieces though. I wanted you to do the all out carmell dansen, but your begrudging dance was still pretty funny. :)
Gundampilotspazon Nov. 21, 2009 at 10:33 a.m.
Gia we all know that you can't resist the Caramelldansen. You aren't some kind of superhuman... are you?

"

I have all the DVDs to Boys over flowers.  When it comes to dance and anime I think the Utena the movie dance are a cut above the rest.

I like my Dancing more on a one and one bases.

How can we forget the opening dance number in Prefect blue.

Here a AMV of different anime dances.

Nice to see other dances beside the more widely know onces.

You should of used the clip of the dancing prisoners doing the Haruhi dance. That was far more surprising then anime fans doing it.

Also, I've used the carameldancen theme for a drawing I did using my own original characters. (Left to right: Ashien, Karin, Page, Adler)

I would play that.... LOL... Gia doing the last dance is awesome!

@N15PCA: I LOVE that dance scene from Utena! One of the most beautiful scenes in ALL ANIME!

......

Did I just see some random anime girl in green dancing to the band Franz Ferdinand's "Do you want to?"

Not cool, not cool at all.
Papasanon Nov. 21, 2009 at 12:28 p.m.

No Way... Caramelldansen RULES!!!

My humble opinion as to why... Here.
giaon Nov. 21, 2009 at 2:32 p.m.
@Lan: I don't know the Hare Hare Yukai dance, either. Ana and I kicked around trying to get a full fivesome from the office to do it for the video, but there just wasn't enough time ;)

@FoxxFireArt: I thought about it, but that would launch me into an entirely different tangent alltogether! Maybe sometime in the semi-distant future I'll do a video JUST on Hare Hare Yukai parodies. :)

@FLStyle: That would be the ending theme for Paradise Kiss, a fashion-themed shoujo romantic drama/comedy. I'm not very familiar with the show but I totally dug the ending, personally!

@N15PCA: The best dancing anime AMV ever is this one:

Ah yes, caramelldansen. It's kinda cool but wierd at the same time how popular that song got, makes me feel special for actually understanding it.

A friend of mine told me about when he was in japan and he could hear it playing in some stores, how unreal it felt.

Oh you missed out the para para dance from Dragon Ball GT, Chengy will be heart broken :P

Great video Gia, tooootally dissapointed with your caramelldansen though.
zynon Nov. 21, 2009 at 8:06 p.m.
Hare Hare Yukai was definitely THE thing that got me to start watching anime.

And Caramelldansen FTW!
