2011 Crunchyroll Winter Anime Schedule

Crunchyroll is well known for streaming the most popular anime

A problem that we as anime spectators tend to face is that anime is Japan-released first, so we are unable to watch it when it is broadcast on TV. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way for us to enjoy the latest anime the same day that it is broadcast on television in Japan? Oh wait, that is what simulcast are for!

Crunchyroll is well known for streaming the most popular anime and simulcasting Japan's ongoing anime like Naruto Shippuden,Fairy Tail and Bleach. The 2011 anime Winter Season has begun, and Crunchyroll will not stay behind. Starting this past Monday, January 3, Crunchyroll began to announce their lineup for the new simulcast titles:

I watched the first episode of Rio... ehhhh.
I'll give it one or two more episodes but I'm not setting my hopes too high, the first episode was kind of all over the place. I'm still trying to figure out if Rio has magic gambling powers or not. It was pretty unclear what exactly was going on.

I think I'll give Kore was Zombie desu ka? a try when that starts, that sounds pretty crazy.
ZombiePieon Jan. 7, 2011 at 1:03 p.m.
@Newten: You know I had someone tell me that Rio is one of the worst things they have seen the entire winter. You know what means to me right?

AK_the_Twilighton Jan. 7, 2011 at 1:27 p.m.
I'll need to check out Beelzebub. Looks interesting.
metalsnakezeroon Jan. 7, 2011 at 1:55 p.m.
Gosick is so far the only one I'm watching on Crunchyroll.
Some may be interesting and then there is Rio -_-;F that show.
Daniel_Newton moderator on Jan. 7, 2011 at 2:01 p.m.
@zombiepie: You know, watching Rio while I'm totally drunk off my face might be the answer. That anime would probably make way more sense while I'm drunk.

@AK_the_Twilight: Forgot about Beezlebub for a minute there, yeah, that might be pretty good, I'll definitely try it out.
sickVisionz moderator on Jan. 7, 2011 at 2:31 p.m.
Checked out Gosick.  I didn't think it was bad but I didn't think it was good either.  I think I might have liked it more about 70 shows back in my viewing history.

Level E looks like it might be interesting and I still need to see if Rio will make card dealing as interesting as Saki made mahjong.  Outside of that, Mitsudomoe is the only thing I've been anticipating.
Gaffon Jan. 7, 2011 at 4:01 p.m.
@zombiepie Reading reactions to Rio, the only thing that would save it in my mind would be if she met the Ace of Spades, while Motorhead blares in the background. Or if they pull a Speed Grapher and open with Duran Duran's Rio.

Anyway, the two most interesting ones are Gosick and Hourou Musuko, especially the latter one. I'm really curious how it's going to tackle the touchy subject matter.
EquitasInvictuson Jan. 7, 2011 at 5:54 p.m.
Man it looks like Crunchyroll is is really absorbing everything. This looks like half of the Winter 2011 lineup.

@Newten: I think I watched the first episode after an entire night of drinking and it still was pretty bad. At this point I'm beginning to question if I should either be drinking more or watching less anime like Rio because anime in general for me isn't as entertaining as it used to be. I've found myself relying on either watching old series or even rewatching what I liked from other seasons (as in from 2009 or earlier.)

Although that may be saying more about the quality of the seasons as of late and not about me watching too much anime. 'xD
Daniel_Newton moderator on Jan. 7, 2011 at 6:54 p.m.
@EquitasInvictus: Aww man, so I can't even watch it drunk and be amused? Damn it.
Did you try Panty & Stocking? If you haven't yet, try it, you have no idea what you're missing.
If you have tried that my best suggestion would probably be to take a look at the mod's choice article and try some stuff we recommended.
damswedonon Jan. 7, 2011 at 7:41 p.m.
I quite liked Rio - Rainbow Gate!
Well as the first episode of a series goes it wasn't bad, it set the scene without giving too much away, it gave basic character traits and it gave us something to bait us in. Regardless of the actual quality of the show its self, it was a good first episode.

Sadly the same can't be said for Gosick which is one of the worst opening episodes I have ever seen. Such basic questions like Why are you here? and Why do you care? are left without answers so you don't care about the major plot thread they try to have at the end.
DocHauson Jan. 7, 2011 at 8:22 p.m.
Rio and Gosick both had shitty first episodes. Hopefully Level E and Beelzebub will be better, but it's starting to look like I might just have time to chip into my backlog of animu this season instead.
sora_thekey moderator on Jan. 7, 2011 at 10:50 p.m.
Personally I am really excited to watch Level E. It seems like it could be one of those well-balanced anime that has both serious and comedic aspects that will make it enjoyable.

I might also try Wandering Son... I don't know why!
ShinjiExon Jan. 8, 2011 at 4:14 a.m.
Pf... meh CrunchyRoll sold out GoGoAnime is the real no BS site ^__^
CrazyCanuckon Jan. 8, 2011 at 7:56 a.m.
@DocHaus:  True but when it comes down to it when Gosick's first episode ended I was confused but I didn't feel like a wasted 23 minutes.  However! all  will pale in comparison to Wandering Son! lol only in Japan.
Mezmeroon Jan. 8, 2011 at 11:37 a.m.
More of that weird Saint Seiya prequel?  Sign me up.
CrazyCanuckon Jan. 8, 2011 at 4:42 p.m.
@damswedon:  wait, What! we're going to have to throw down at some point.  although Rio and Gosick's first episodes weren't great Rio was just... /sigh.  THATS IT, I CHALLENGE YOU TO A DUAL! YOU AND ME AT THE FLAG POLE, TWO MEN ENTER ONE MAN LEAVES! lol.
sora_thekey moderator on Jan. 8, 2011 at 9:43 p.m.
@CrazyCanuck: Two men enter a flagpole... one leaves? This sounds like the beginning of a really bad joke!

" @DocHaus: However! all  will pale in comparison to Wandering Son! lol only in Japan. "
Admit it! You are just as interested as I am to at least watch the first episode!
EquitasInvictuson Jan. 8, 2011 at 11:50 p.m.
@Newten: Actually I have watched it and I found it to be an awesome change of pace! I've also looked at the mod's choice, and I found a lot of things spot on. I was especially pleased seeing Ore no Imouto listed - that was probably my favorite Fall 2010 anime in terms of cuteness and overall satisfaction! I hope they start cranking another season since they have so much more light novel material to work with, apparently!

In terms of this season's openers, I was similarly underwhelmed by Gosick but charmed by Victorique, which is my main motivation for continuing to watch it.

Mitsudomoe's 2nd Season opener was hilarious as to be expected. They took a very unique approach with opening it and I appreciated it. Hopefully the next seven episodes continue to be original while remaining just as hilarious.

Beelzebub was entertaining in its ridiculousness! Its ability to be over-the-top while not being self-serious at all reminds me of Needless in a way.

I accept!
I accept!
Rio might be dumb stupid trash but it actually answered small questions like "Who is she?" and "Why are they here?" Gosick on the other hand just failed to set up the world, which would of been fine if the mystery for the episode wasn't absolutely terrible. Because they didn't set anything up or have a good engaging mystery the plot twist was un-earned. The only thing the show has going for it so far is Victoria who is just a young Sherlock Holmes without the Cocaine habit and surrounded by complete dumb-wits.
I'm still going to watch it because I like a good murder mystery story, but god it was a terrible episode.
CrazyCanuckon Jan. 9, 2011 at 4:40 a.m.
@damswedon: Uncle! Uncle! Uncle! I saw your intimidating picture and I almost died.
