I spotted this blog post on Iza, a Japanese news site, and apparently they had a rep at the New York Anime Festival! The writer starts out talking about the convention center, which is apparently somewhat similar in appearance to the Makuhari Messe, a convention center in Chiba, Japan.
More importantly, the reviewer was impressed with the overall level of cosplay at the con, which is pretty cool. Apparently the most frequent cosplay noticed was the "eccentric" Haruhi Suzumiya, which isn't too surprising, since it's a very popular character and a fairly accessible costume. The writer saw at least six or seven Haruhis, and was surprised that the show was this popular overseas.
The rest of the article pretty much goes on to talk about Haruhi's popularity in specific, along with that of co-star Mikuru Asahina, but it's always nice to see some reciprocal excitement coming from Japan in response to the American anime fandom.
