As the Kira Task Force are about to die, they are still alive. Matsuda makes an obvious statement and this is what Near is trying to tell them: they're not gonna die. Mikami huddles of why the Task Force and SPK will not die and tells Light he did what he asked him to. Near orders Rester and Gevanni to arrest Mikami and explains that the only name is not written is Light's.
Light accuses Near of framing him and claims that he doesn't know Mikami.
Aizawa holds Light to his shoulder, telling him that it is too late to deny it and that Near has won. Light has said that he has won and that is his confession that he is Kira. Matsuda, upon discovering the revelation, sadly drops to his knees, asking why Light did it. Just as Mogi is about to put the handcuffs on him, Light runs to a wall.
Near goes to explanations that Light is Kira including having touched the real Death Note allows him to see Ryuk. Having reached a dead end, Light laughs mad and admits that he is Kira. He explains to Near his motive to use the Death Note to get rid all of the criminals and plan to make the world a better place. Near retorts that what all Light did is wrong.
Light attempts to kill Near by writing Near's real name, Nate River, in the piece of the Death Note. However, Matsuda shot him. Angered that Light didn't show remorse that his father is dead, he attempts to kill him, but Aizawa, Mogi, and Ide stopped him. Light orders Mikami to write down everyone's names, but he commits suicide to give Light a chance to escape. Near allows that as he doesn't have anymore pieces of the Death Note, but Aizawa, Matsuda, Ide, Mogi decided to follow Light, which Near lets them do it.
Light, injured, runs way as he sees himself 6 years ago. Ryuk writes his name down in his Death Note and as a result, Light dies of a heart attack.
Misa is seen standing in a ledge closing her eyes, indicating that she is going to commit suicide. Meanwhile, in a warehouse, Light sees an image of L before closing his eyes.
