A giant robot, a relic of an ancient South Sea civilization, threatens to destroy Tokyo, but it can be controlled by the three teenage Shimabara sisters, who are descended from its makers. Despite their reservations about inheriting this relic of their previously unknown ancestry, the 18-foot-tall robot becomes "one of the family"-with sometimes comic consequences. Originated by Aikawa, with striking designs, backgrounds, and music, this show begins as a Godzilla pastiche but soon transforms into a slice-of-life drama with occasional city-stomping. The short and variable episode lengths stem from its original existence as just one of several anime shown on TV's Anime Complex anthology slot, though it is a measure of its quality that it was at least optioned for a follow-up season-few of its fellow short shows shared such success.
