I watched the movie before the series and I want to buy the box but I don't have $100.   The ending did have me wanting MORE!  and yeah for video features!

Had to duck out at the spoiler alert, but keep pumping out the video content guys. It makes the site more personal, which is one of the greatest strengths of the whiskey media sites in general.

For the love of Pete! This is 18 minutes long??? Still, nice to see some video content on the site once more. I'd love to try video reviews, but I don't have a video camera. Little need for one in what I do.

This kind of DVD looks to be more something someone should purchase if you are really into Evangelion. It's not like you are getting a different story, but you are getting improved visuals. That seems to be the selling point for this movie. I'll believe the re-imagined ending when I see it. For example, the manga moves differently in some key segments, but the outcome looks to be heading in the same direction.
In the same way the One Piece movie 8 was just the canon Alabasta Arc condensed, but with graphically improved visuals.
If a person was to start here. I feel it would be a drastic disappointment to go back and watch the full series. You would get more of the plot, but the visuals wouldn't be able to keep up.

When you are editing for a movie. It's drastically different for editing a TV series. You have a finite amount of time. Some points you need to hit and others you need to drop.

Rei really was created from his mother's DNA and some other mix. There was even that scene of that one Rei that talked to Ritsuko's mother and seemed to speak as Yui to the "other woman".

I really agree with your assessment about the voice work. It does feel like acting. Far too often in dub work the actors sound more like they are just going through the motions. Which I more often blame on directors rather then the actors. That's why I normally prefer subs.
The Evangelion series actors really grab you in the scenes with their emotions. Misato's English VA is one of my favorites for this series.

I like the points you brought up about how it's really unsure about when the US will be getting the next step in the series. Nothing is more annoying then a cliffhanger when you don't have any idea how long you need to hold on for.

Looking back on my post here. I'm wondering if I may of written a 'tad' too much. O_o

Yeah i had the same reaction to this!

This is funny cause last week I was deciding to buy either this, or the Illusionist.. and I bought the Illusionist cause I had never seen that movie (and it was cheaper)... but I am regretting it!
NOW I WANT TO WATCH THIS MOVIE EVEN MORE!

Well you should get one!
My last Video Review was on Heroman Ep 1... but I was left without a camera after that so... now I can't!

But cliffhangers are everything... if you don't know how long to hold on for makes it even more interesting. The fact that you are even holding on for the "To Be Continued" part then the movie did it's job...

I haven't seen the series, so the fact that this is a condensed version of the series makes me smile because I wanted to watch the series, but I don't have time to match a bunch of episodes... difference to buying a simple movie!

Who is this Metal Mike dude? I don't think I've seen him before, would have been nice if Tom introduced him!
Nice to see new video content though, even if it is a tad long, but hey it was unscripted and everything so that's fair enough.

I haven't seen much of the original Evangelion, so maybe this might be a good place to start.

@Newten: "Metal Mike" is a friend of Tom's, but not a recurring writer on Anime Vice or anything.

What did you guys all think of this video? Like it? You all seem to think it was a tad bit long...we'll work on that.

@danielm:
I think the unscripted reviews move better when it's more then one person talking. I think it would of been less informative if Tom had just been talking himself. In this, the two moved off each other.

I wouldn't say that I didn't like the length. It's just a tad jarring to go from no video content to something the equivalent length of an anime episode.

I was nice to finally see some video content.

AHHHHHHHH NO quest?

You dudes need to chill and bro out.  Why can't anyone talk about anime passionately without coming off as a total nerd?  I'd be like "Dude, check out this anime bro."  Then my buddy will be like "Look at this fight it's sick!"  Then I'm like "Hell yeah bro that robot got trashed!" Dude...

Nice to see some video content again, and they do try, but I do rather miss Gia/John.  Alas.

Having two people for this is good, because it gives you something to bounce information back on.  Are AV in the new office as well with the rest of the Whiskey people, that room could use some baffling I think...

Agreed.  Let's hope this is the start of new video review content on the site again.
