Remember back in early December when on Anime Vice we brought word to you of Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance was coming to U.S. theaters before the release of the DVDs? Every since then I have been painstakingly writing emails and making phone calls to whoever would answer about when we would have not just dates on the screenings. All just so I can bring you the community the story. In truth,.....I made all that up. I just googled "FUNimation Evangelion 2.0 trailer" last week and something real finally showed up.

    Proof that everything set to opera music becomes dramatic.
    Proof that everything set to opera music becomes dramatic.
It was quite odd that FUNimation in association with Eleven Arts, who are distributing the film to theaters, would take so long to release a trailer. More so considering that the screenings begin on January 19 in Austin, TX. Whatever the reason, we finally have one. Similar to the Japanese trailer we showed you last time, this one is mainly only set to some opera music. To get any dialog scenes I guess we will just have to see this in theaters or when the DVD is release on March 29th. Don't let that discourage you. What we see here is incredible. Finally, we get more of a look at the latest to the Evangelion cast of characters. The bespectacled pilot of Unit-05, Mari Illustrious

It's important to remind everyone that this is only part two of the four part for the retelling of this classic anime staple. There are two more parts to come, and the outcome is seriously up in the air. Where Evangelion 1.0 was rehashing the basics of the original anime. Anything could happen after this point.

Watch the video....

Just FYI, though the trailer says coming Winter 2011. It actually means the winter that is currently going on. If you can't see this trailer in your area due to regional coding. You might be able to see it off the official Evangelion 2.0 website: HERE

No Boston release. Awesome.

Is it me or does it feel like these anime distributors aren't handling these rolling release tours very well? The dates and locations for Summer Wars weren't made available until two weeks ago, and even then, they severely cut down dates in my location, so I literally CANNOT support it anymore.

It just feels like sloppy planning.

Man, I need to see if I can get in on this.
@mesoian:
Keep in mind that this is the first they really push for anime movies for a while so do expect some messiness to release dates and stuff.

I can not believe I misspelled Georgetown.

@mesoian:
Yeah, it sucks this isn't getting wider releases, but you do have to admit this is a very impressive step. FUNimation now has two anime movies in U.S.theaters. Both Summer Wars and now Evangelion 2.0. Summer Wars isn't that surprising. It's a possible candidate for an Academy Award. Evangelion is the surprise.

Normally, you'd expect a movie such as this to get a small release in a handful of theaters in New York, LA, or San Fransisco. If this goes well, we might even get more locations for the third movie in this series.

I'm in Canada but we're getting it too. I'll be seeing it on January 20th at my local cinplex, and I can't wait. x]

I'm super surprised that not only is it coming to GA, but it's coming for a whole week.  These type of things usually don't make it into the southeastern US at all.  I plan on seeing this opening night since it's in my hometown.

@icon:  Hey I'm from Canada as well, do you know where I can find a listing for the Canadian theaters?

@HaiducFolken:
Go to that link for the official site. Hit "View The Release Schedule" button above Askua and Mari. You can find Canada release dates there.

Nice, looking forward to it.

@LordCraven: The first one was pretty cool. The theater even had a contest for the crowd for some anime box sets before the show started.

I've seen the Japanese version and it is amazing! They really trim the fat of the original series and change the course of the plot for the better. The end of the film is mind blowing.  If you guys can't wait until it hits theaters, import the Chinese blu-ray version. The English sub is pretty good.

I'm in canada and work for an Anime convention and we receive an email on December 16th from Eleven Arts announcing a nation wide release on January 20th 2011.
I'm pretty sure the date were set early in December, Funimation was just lazy to update.

edit: It passed Quebec classification board on the 5th.
