My Thoughts

Doesn't Seem That Bad
Doesn't Seem That Bad

I'm so happy that Ken Akamatsu is returning to the Negima's universe, I always love seeing the after match of the happy ending (can't wait to see Jack Rakan). Also glad it going to a smaller cast this time around, it was really hard to remember everyone names last time. Anyway, I was glad seeing Eva playing a bigger role this time around, I was always interested in her character in Negima. I also was interested that Touta's grandfather was Negi Springfield and he seem to be dead.

I only have a couple of problems, in that the main character is just a shonen main character with amnesia. I hope Akamatsu fresh him out later. The other problem I have is that his friends didn't have names, it was kind of hard to worry for their lives. Also, I wondering what UQ Holder mean? All in all, I can't wait for the next chapter

My Rating

3.5/5 (So so beginning)

Thank you for reading and remember to support the Anime/Manga :)

Sorry for any typo

Mahō Sensei Negima! is one of my favorite shonen manga, after a nine years run it end today. The ending was pretty good, but I do wish Akamatsu-sensei would make a sequel.

The series is so awesome, almost all the main characters are enjoyable. I really enjoy the character development and the action, also the comedy is pretty good. At first glance it may look like a standard harem, but it more then that. It about a kid who try to follow in his father's foot steps, whom happen to teach a English class full of girls and he just ten years old (also he have magical powers). Unlike other harems main guy, Negi is not a spineless coward (ok, at first he was) and also have a very good reason he not into his harem girls, because he only ten years old. Even the girls are not stereotype (ok, they are but only a little bit)

Yue Ayase Fans Rejoice!

Negima! Anime to get a One Shot Spin-off!!

If one wasn't getting enough of the young magical teacher Negi Springfield with all the recent anime series he has been starring in recently. The main publisher of the Negima! manga, Kodansha, has recently announced a spin off one-shot anime. On their official youtube page, Kondansha started streaming a one minute fourty-four second trailer for a bonus episode of the Negima! Another World anime short-series, but the star of this special will be the normally laid back Yue Ayase. The episode will be called  " Negima! ~Mō Hitotsu no Sekai~ Extra Mahō Shōjo Yue" which basically translates to the rather cliche title of "Negima! ~Another World Extra: Magical Girl Yue". The director, Akiyuki Shinbo, is well known for his other works in the second season Negima!?, Pani Poni Dash, and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei.

The story will be following the Araidne Magical Girl Arc from the manga that was scattered through Negima! Volume 22 & Volume 23. After the Ala Albra are scattered across the Magical World due to Fate's attack. Yue is transported to the land of Ostia. Due to a magical accident, Yue has lost all her memories. She makes some new friends as she trains in magic on the hope of regaining her memories. This episode will be a special OVA(original video animation) to be sold with the release of the manga Negima! Volume 32 on November 17, 2010.

This is the beginning of perhaps a series of blogs that I might write so if it goes over well, maybe I'll do more. Now I like anime, in some cases I even would say I love anime. It's got a nice, distinct style to it and its own brand of humor that I wouldn't change for the world. Sometimes I really get into an anime and it'll give back 110%. Other times though, it'll decide it would rather take me by the head and kick me to the curb.  When this happens, I have to stop and think to myself just when this anime lost its way in my eyes.

The anime in question for this article is Mahou Sensei Negima by Ken Akamatsu, the guy who did Love Hina. A fun series premise:  a young mage has to complete his training in Japan by teaching a class filled entirely with quirky Japanese school girls. Negi Springfield, a 10 year old Welsh boy, has his work cut out for him considering he has to keep his powers a secret from everyone or be forcibly turned into an ermine by some mage council back home. It's a silly premise, but it leads to lots of amusing little adventures, panty shots and the like. Plus, it's got a plethora of cute girls who are all interesting in their own right. Whether it's the shy bookish Nodoka or the tsundere type swords lady Setsuna, there's plenty of girls for every one!

Of course, one girl, a rather brash young lady named Asuna Kagurazaka, happens to see Negi use his magic to save someone from falling off a flight of stairs. She confronts him about it, forcing him to explain the situation and needless to say Asuna is fine with keeping his secret. She doesn't particularly like Negi from the start, especially since he replaced the teacher she had a crush on for the longest time, Takahata-sensei. As time goes on though, she starts to feel for the little guy as they go through zany adventures involving a love potion, vampire attacks (courtesy of class mate Evangeline A K Macdowell) and even time travel. As time goes on, more girls learn his secrets and Negi starts learning kung fu from one of his students even!

This is about the beginning of the end for me, however. The point at which Negima switches from a rather fun little almost harem anime romp to a shounen magical combat anime.  Spoilers ahead for those of you who do not wish to know.

It seems to me that Ken Akamatsu should stick with romantic comedy things because the guy cannot write an interesting villain to save his life. In the grand scheme of thing is a group of ne'erdowells headed by a stereotypically emotionless white haired mage kid named Fate. He first shows up in Kyoto during a class trip with his first group of evil doers tryin to kidnap Konoka, a student of Negi's who has ties to the Kansai school of magerie. The combat portions of this are interesting, but of course Fate is being set up to become the main villain in the series so the final battle ends with him getting away with his minions. One later shows up and becomes Negi's friend in combat, rivals almost, and things just slide down hill from there.

As the story delves increasingly into Negi's attempts to find his father, who might still be alive, I found myself caring less and less about it. Especially once Negima falls into DBZ territory and breaks out the old Hyperbolic time chamber not once, not twice, but THREE times in at least two separate arcs. In fact, in one arc it even works to their disadvantage since the villain knew they would do it and adjusted her plans to happen before they came out. Eventually things spiraled out of control with Asuna being a princess from the magical world and Negi trying to use dark powers to try and make himself a better fighter when in the end things would have been fine enough if they had just stuck with the original comedy formula.

I haven't read it in a while, so perhaps some of these issues have been resolved. At this point though, it doesn't matter to me. Negima, you lost your way.

Am I the only one that notices that the main character is NEVER commited to any one character of the opposite sex by the end? Why bother making somthing if you aren't going to finish it?

The Negima!? List

The Negima!? class is all here
The Negima!? class is all here

Anime Vice Now has a Completed Catalog on the Negima!? Anime Series

If you have noticed that I have not been incredibly vocal in the comments in the articles on the main page recently. I have been a bit busy with my free time on something special.

I am writing this blog to announce that I have finished a part of a small project I have been doing on Anime Vice for the past week. It involved the Negima! franchise. I already have all the profiles on the Negima! manga filled out in full. Each of those profiles has a complete catalog of the contents in each volumes. That includes character listing, locations, concepts, and objects.

This week I took care of the information on the second season of the anime series Negima!?. If you go on Anime Vice right now. You can find a full listing of information on each episode in this series. I even included six images onto each episode. There is also a listing for the opening and ending theme songs.  You can see that each section is completely filled out with the same level of detail as I did with the manga series. I think the only portion that still needs to be filled out is the voice actor credits.

Now, if there is something you ever wanted to learn about the Negima!? anime. Anime Vice is the site to check out. I hope you enjoy it.

Since I have watched the anime of Negima!, I decided to check out the manga for it ( Negima!).  Since January 17, I have been reading chapters of the manga just about every night and as of today, I have finally caught up to where the manga is currently at.  As some of you may know, the manga is still going so I will not review the whole series as a whole like I usually do right now.  Instead, I thought I would point out some things I like and dislike about the manga.  It is really early in the morning (2am-ish) so I'm not going to go into super deep detail list.  I'm just going to make a small list of the things I like and dislike about the manga.

May contain some small spoilers so read at your own risk!

I LIKE

  • I enjoy the goofy comedy of the show.  Some of the jokes you can see coming sometimes, but I really enjoy it.
  • I really enjoy the caste of characters (there are a ton of them) and all of them of unique and special in there own way.
  • While the story can go a little over the top at times (it is a shonen manga after all), I've been digging it a lot, especially the current arc of the manga.
  • I'm a sucker for fanservice and this series has tons of it.
  • Latter on the in the series there are some epic battles that are pretty sweet.
  • From a harem perspective, it's really good.  As some of you may know, the creator of Negima!, Ken Akamatsu, has also created Love Hina, which is one of the most popular harem franchises of all time.  With Negima!, he nails down the harem once again.

I DISLIKE

  • It some usual shonen stuff like tournaments, hidden powers, characters dying (or not?), etc.
  • Some times it can get a little talkative with lots of text in one panel.
  • Negi is a lucky basted.  I want tons of girls to hang out with.          :(

There you have it.  Just a brief list of things I like and dislike.  If you have watched animes of the franchise, Negima! or Negima!?, and loved them, you owe you self a favor and should check out the manga.  There is a spinoff a manga ( Negima!? Neo, based on Negima!?) as some of you may now, but I'm not going to check it out right now.  I'm going to stick with Ken's original work.

Well, I'm off to bed now.  Night!
