I just don't think I can compete...with the shadow of his real mother. I realized today how much he looks like his father. And then it struck me. It's like Shizuna-san and Momoko-san have risen from the grave...and returned home.
Natsuko Eda is Kazuna's foster mother and Shin's wife. She cares deeply for Kazuna and wants to adopt him. Aunt Natsuko is featured more prominently in the story than Shin, and makes it very clear she wants Kazuna to think of her as his mother. Although Natsuko tries, she doesn't seem to be a very good cook, even still, Kazuna eats all the food she prepares for him. She'll often leave his school lunch prepared for him on the table with a short note when she has to go to work early in the morning. She is rather cold toward Chizuna and doesn't want to let Kazuna go with her. She even once admits that she's afraid of Chizuna. When Shinobu comes to do her investigations, Natsuko omits things to keep her from learning about the Takashiro curse. In the manga, Natsuko is the most adamant about making sure that Kazuna never remembers the year he has forgotten.
