The Creator of Fruits Basket

Natsuki Takaya is the pen name for the manga-ka best known for her work on Fruits Basket. Born as Naka Hatake, Natsuki had dreamt of being a manga-ka since first grade. She has a love for video games, especially anything from the Final Fantasy series or Sakura Wars. Natsuki admits to liking to draw girls (especially girly ones) more than boys. She enjoys electronics and music, but hates talking about herself. Her favorite movies are Laputa: Castle in the Sky and Field of Dreams.

Natsuki's work on Fruits Basket earned her the Kodansha Manga Award for shoujo anime in 2001. Following the publication of the sixth volume of Fruits Basket, Natsuki broke her left drawing arm which led her to take a brief hiatus from making the series when she had to go into surgery to repair the injury. While she gained interest in baseball during her recovery at the hospital, Natsuki claims her handwriting got worst when she had the surgery on her arm.
