The stubborn and anti-heroic 6th fist of Ragnarok, Hermit.
Having lost their parents at a young age, Natsu and his young sister spent much of their early life in an orphanage. They were eventually adopted by the wealthy head of a corporation who sought an heir. This was to be Natsu, who agreed to the rigorous studying and work required for this role, as his sister suffered from a serious illness, the treatment for which could only be afforded while under the patronage of the old man.
The Tanimoto children's adoptive father was originally distant and viewed the children as a business necessity rather than a family. This changed however when he fell in love with the nurse who cared for Natsu's sister, and they began to live like a genuine family at last. The nurse had less than pure motives though, as she murdered her new lover, and withdrew treatment from Natsu's sister, causing her death. The nurse was jailed, and Natsu was left alone, but rich.
Natsu's misfortunes continued, as he was soon tricked into signing documents that would transfer his stake in his adopted father's company over to higher-ups in the organization. When he was taken to a deserted bridge to be killed discreetly, a stranger intervened. This was Ogata Inshinsai, a ruthless martial artist also known as "Kensei". Kensei defeated Natsu's assailants and then told him that if he wanted to become anyone else's master, he first must become his own master through martial arts. Natsu soon came under the tutelage of the Chinese Martial Arts master Sougetsu Ma, and as a teenager, joined the gang Ragnarok which had been formed by Kensei's Disciple Ryuuto. This is when Natsu took the name "Hermit".
Natsu Tanimoto was created by Syun Matsuena for his manga series, History's Mightiest Disciple Kenichi. He also appears in the animated adaptation.
Natsu is a young man of average height and who sports wavy blond hair. he is often noted by others around him as being particularly good-looking. He has a very well-toned build. His signature clothing is a blue outfit that is rather form fitting around the torso and sports a distinctive hood which often partially covers his face.
In public, particularly with others at his school, Natsu affects the persona of a gentle & selfless perfect student. In this guise he tutors other students, excels at his studies and is the star of the drama club. This is all an act however, and he often views his school life as an experiment in learning how to control people's perceptions of him, and how to interact with people in a way that yields the best results from him.
When not putting on an act Natsu seems cold, cynical & harsh. He is known for dealing harshly with his enemies and tends to keep others at a distant. Beneath this somewhat cruel layer however, is a person who is kinder than he lets on and cares for those close to him.
His sister's last words to him were to never give up, which has given him a pronounced competitive streak.
The two have a pronounced rivalry. Kenichi's bright-eyed optimism was initially anathema to Hermit, whose history had given him a harsher outlook on life. For this reason, and Hermit's affiliation to Ragnarok which Kenichi opposed, he sought a bought between the two. Hermit was narrowly defeated, partly due to others interference, and swore to one day get his revenge. Hermit had saved Kenichi's sister during the events that led to their fight, and as such has been forever indebted to him. The two are friends, even if Natsu is often harsh towards Kenichi. Kenichi regards Natsu in a much warmer light than vice-versa, but has a parrticular knack for getting under his skin.
Kenichi's younger sister formed a bond with Hermit during the events that led to the two rivals duel. Tanimoto took Honoka back to his home after saving her when she became involved with his fight with a group of thugs. Finding the young man living alone, and grateful to him for saving her, she took it upon herself to 'look after him'. While she often forces her company upon him, and he often acts coldly towards her, Hermit isn't as forceful in repelling her as might be expected.
Hermit's master is a hard-drinking, and generally quite hard man who has little time for sentimentality. The two have a certain affectionate disdain for one another, as Hermit calls him his "terrible master" while Sougetsu refers to his student as a brat. Sougetsu is an unforgiving and often-hands off teacher, but a very effective one, and Hermit respects him in this regard.
While the two rarely interact, the encounter where Kensei saved his life had a profound effect on hermit and he has always felt indebted to him.
Hermit is a martial-artist of the "Disciple" rank, though a particularly formidable one. He specialises in Chinese martial arts like Piquaquan & Bajiquan.
