Aburame Clan

The Aburame are a bloodline of ninjas in the Hidden Leaf Village. Their notable feature is that they allow thousands of chakra devouring insects to live in their body and in exchange, the insects do their bidding.

Akimichi Clan

The Akimichi clan is a bloodline of Hidden Leaf ninjas that are able to rapidly expand parts of their body by turning excess calories in their body into chakra. Because of this, they tend to be obese people.

Alternate Reality

An alternate reality is a universe that is different from the main world of a series. This world can be different in just small ways and it will still resemble the main reality, or it can be completely different and not be similar at all to the universe the protagonist had known.

Ambiguous Gender

A common theme in anime and manga is for a character to be a man that looks feminine or a woman that looks masculine, often leading the viewers to believe them to be of the opposite gender.

Amnesia

Mental condition of when someone forgets almost all of his or her past, including his/her identity. Some anime characters have such an allingment.

Amputee

A character that has had one or more of his/her limbs completely severed.

ANBU

The ANBU is a special squad of ninja specifically created for assassinations, stealth missions and dealing with exceptionally dangerous threats too dangerous for regular ninja

Angel

Angels are beings that reside in Heaven. They are often portrayed with wings, halos, or both.

Anime/Manga within Anime/Manga

This is for any anime/manga that has created another series within itself that is referenced quite often.

Antagonist

The main opposing force of a story. Normally the antagonist is a villain but other forms of fiction may have them as heroes or indifferent characters.

Anti-Hero

A kind of Hero who has rather questionable methods and motives. He may have good goals but does evil things for it or being totally selfish but saves the day somehow.

Arrogant

The character is head over heels of him -or herself. He/she might be the best(or not) , but usually the laziest to act and always underestimates the enemies. Rather popular concept for villains and rivals.

Assassin

A person who was paid to preform the extermination of a specific person.

Baby

A Baby is a newborn child. Babies need constant care and supervisions since they are unable to care for them self at all or talk.

Back to life

Also known as resurrection. This is when a previously dead character is restored back to life.

Bad Ass Fight Scene

A fight scene or epic battle that stands above the norm of what the series offers and goes down in history as one of the best combat encounters in the series. The perfect combination of epicness and animation.

Bad Turned Good

Also known as redemption. This is when someone who was previously wicked decided to become good.

Bath Scene

One of the most common forms of fanservice in all anime. Bath scenes can show bonding between characters, but are more often used as just an excuse to exploit a female character.

Best Friends

Betrayal

Betrayal is the act of treachery or a violation of a trust or allegiance. This can be to one's friends, country, or God.

Big Bad

Usually the main villain of the season/show. Most difficult to kill.There are even bigger bads

Big Boobs

What is anime without the over-sexualization of women's breasts?

Birthday

A anniversary of the day on which a person was born (or the celebration of it).

Breaking the 4th Wall

The act of Breaking the 4th Wall is when a character seem to show knowledge that they are in a fictional series. Normally by talking directly to the audience.

Brother and Sister

A male and a female member of a family that share the same parents.

Brothers

Male characters that share the same parents.

Bully

A person who actively tries to start fights with others who are weaker and pose little threat.

Byakugan

The original Doujutsu that evolved into the Sharingan, still prominently used by Konoha's Hyuuga Clan.

Cat

Feline animal with four legs and says "meow." Many are found hanging around animes and mangas.

Catch Phrase

A line or word that is used repeatedly by a character until it becomes a line that they are known for and helps make them memorable.

Cat Fight

A term given to an altercation between two women.

Chakra

In the Naruto universe chakra is a form of energy through which ninjutsu moves can be accomplished. There are five different types of elemental chakras.

Chibi

Chibi means to be small in stature. In anime/manga the term is used for a character that is small in appearance and exaggerated features.

Child Abuse

Child Abuse is the act of an adult striking or causing harm to a child. Not necessarily physical, but emotional abuse as well.There are also adults who sexually abuse kids called Pedophilia.

Childhood Friend

The character has known the protagonist for a long time, typically all his/her life. If he/she's from the opposite gender there's a high chance he/she has a crush on the main character.

Child Prodigy

A child who is on the same ability level as an older person. This can include things such as skipping grades or talent at an instrument.

Chunin

High level Ninja who have completed the Chunin exam, but are not Jounin

Chunin Exam

The Chunin Exams are an event held in the Hidden Leaf where Genin from the Hidden Leaf and other villages go through a series of tests and practical examinations in order to be considered for advancement to the Chunin rank.

Clone

A Clone is a biological copy of any organic creature. A Clone is mostly created through science and is sometimes abused to an extent.

Clothing Damage

When a character's clothes become torn from an attack, such as an explosion or energy blast.

Collateral Damage

Collateral Damage is a military term describing a situation where soldiers destroy property or kill civilians by accident or on purpose. Example:Dragon Ball Z, there is a lot of property damages and lives lost when Majin Buu blows up the whole city.

Comedy

Nearly every anime has a comedic moment here or there. Everyone likes to laugh.

Convenient Censorship

Convenient Censorship such as steam, hair and beams of light are often used in anime and manga to show naked characters while obscuring their "naughty bits".

Cooking

Someone or something to do with cooking.

Cool character

Someone who remains calm in most of the situations. Even in the middle of battle.

Corrupt Leaders

Power corrupts. Bureaucratic power (especially tied to other powers) is no exception.

Costume Change

Normally in anime and manga a character will wear the same outfit throughout the series. But there are many characters who are known for changing into elaborate costumes, costumes they'd never wear normally, either for comedic relief, to gain power, or for their own mysterious reasons.
