Usually, what I label as a Guilty Pleasure, is something that isn't deep, mind blowing, or complex. My guilty pleasure in anime are shows that are just cute like Kiniro Mosaic where it a slice of life but doesn't talk about the little things in people's lives but a group of girls acting all cute. It kinda like watch kittens on Youtube or those Japanese videos of kittens and puppies doing stuff.

Oh, my god. What's wrong, why is there no sound in the video? Wait, my speaker wasn't turned on. I'm a moron.

Screw anyone who doesn't like ROCK LEE AND HIS NINJA PALS. I really had a lot of fun with it. There is no reason to take any guilt out of this series. I watched every episode and laughed all the time. I like it when a series can poke fun at itself.

ONE PIECE has had some pretty great animated shorts. They're call Mugiwara Theater. I believe they're based on a few manga shorts Oda created as extras.

I guess I could describe STRIKE WITCHES as my guilty pleasure. I'm a bit of a history buff, and I enjoyed a lot of the nods to history that series was filled with. Erica Hartmann had such an fun personality. I never understood the ridiculous dedication to the idea that women never wear pants. I can't find a clip of it, but there is this great scene between Hartmann and Gertrud Barkhorn in Episode 7 of the first season. Barkhorn is trying to get Erica to wake up for her award ceremony, but Erica just wants to sleep in. Every time she asks for more time to sleep she adds more instead of less. The interesting thing is that this episode is very loosely based around an event that happened to the real life German pilot that she's based on. FUNimation has the full episode up on YouTube (and maybe HULU).

I tried to enjoy watching IKKI TOUSEN, but couldn't get through the first season. I've seen clips of the show that had some pretty impressive fight choreography, but it was all the series' allusion to rape that made me uncomfortable.

Oddly enuff for long time i worked for a guy who owned a junk yard an built cars for him.Good analogy.

So bad its good anime?

NSFW but..

Ulatra viloent.Super serious .But silly....really a demon hit man in a leotard.. really?

Then there is ...

It has a passable story line.. but it takes it self so serious .style wise it kinda gets silly bad. Plus it has probly the longest trailer of any anime ever.

I like both both for takeing a over the top style an stiries an treat them so serious it kinda works.

I loved Rock Lee's Adventures more than Naruto for some odd reason. Yes, the first episode was bomb, but the second episode reeled me in because it poke fun at the Naruto characters including Rock Lee's whole love thing with Sakura. First episode was about dog shit. That wasn't funny. I missed the show.

Another guilty pleasure was Astarotte's Toy. It was recommended by . Funny thing was that I thought it was a reverse harem show based on the premise I read. Though, Daniel and Sotyfan16 straighten me up. I hated the show, and it creeped me out. After watching it, I got used to it. I started to like the show. Same goes for Campione and Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero. Yeah, they were crappy fan service shows, but I enjoy them. Both are flat harem shows. Campione - you needed to withstand Godou's history lessons and erotic French kissing. For Aesthetica, Akatsuki is a Gary Stu who can strip any girl. I was bothered by the scene where he make three girls pee themselves. Don't know why I didn't drop the show after that point.

@The Stegman: Thats actualy on my to buy list. Not sure if it was the odd mix of comedy with covert ops in a high school or the main characters doged duty,But i really enjoyed the series.Animation was great the Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu was even a lighter take on the show but fun none the less.

@takashichea: Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero i like because im tired of harem shows where the main guy gets beat more than a drum. It dares to make the main character a over the top hero an not always nice.

@Marshal Victory:

Akatsuki is an assf*ck, but he was better than those wimpy guys who are afraid of cooties and girls. That's what I like about him.

@takashichea: You tried High School DxD ? at times it reminds me of Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero because the main character is honest about his goals.. which is to have a large harem.

edit : also note your avatar change threw me . plus did ya get around to watching Gatchaman Crowds ?

Post by Marshal Victory (2,419 posts) See mini bio Level 13

@takashichea: thanks for link just posted there. In this thread tho i almost posted Case Closed when its bad its bad .But its the kinda of bad that fits it's set up age group i think.An you have to skip the intro or it almsot always spoils the show. But then again many anime do that as well.Habit of mine now o skip the song intro of al anime so not to chance it.

I love how Tom just mentions the "H" word and it looks like he becomes immediately and visibly upset.

I don't subscribe to the guilty pleasures thing. I either am on or off the train. Still, I think everyone's stuck with something, even feeling that it is not a great investment.

For me, that show is Danganronpa. I think I might not be on the "winning" side of this conversation, but Danganronpa is probably best consumed as the game it first was, I feel. Even though it's just a "Who's gonna die next?" type of show, I still don't enjoy these characters at that level. They're ridiculous cardboard cut-outs.

I want to see why they were all caught up in this, though. Is it a worthwhile reveal? I hope so, because look at this ridiculous character!

Really? FOR SERIOUS? FOR REAL?? If the character designs weren't "Yu-gi-oh fell into a bag of coke" enough, this pops up. The show is consistently outlandish, though, so I can't say it makes zero sense in this world.

@YotaruVegeta:

Love Danganronpa. It's a decent show. Art style remind me of Persona and Ace Attorney for some reason. You should join me and Sonata in the Danganronpa Discussion. Had a blast guessing who the murderer is. At least, it's not an MMO game based anime series. Seen a lot of those lately with Sword Art Online, Btooom, and Ixion Saga DT.

I forgot to answer your question about Gatchaman Crowds. I'm enjoying it. I should start a discussion thread for that one. I dig the third party, Galaxters, to the whole good vs evil aspect of the show. I just started the WATAMOTE Discussion despite it being late. I just love Watamote and Dog & Scissor. They're bad shows, but they're entertaining. That's all my guilty pleasure shows for this summer.

@takashichea: The art style just barely reminds me of Persona (the Swimsuit girl looks like she could fit in that universe).

Post by Marshal Victory (2,419 posts) See mini bio Level 13

@takashichea: Sword art online wasnt based off a single game tho more the whole mmorpg gene i think.It was a good show , me thinks a bit long tho for the ride. Devil Survivor 2: The Animation should be in that list as well.

Gatchaman Crowds as a art work must have been of love .Few anime inject that much style ( not that you have to like the style ) into a animation.Last series that put this much art efort into style in the animation i think would be Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine its either you love the style or hate it thing .Also its a deceptive series older fans think its a fluff light hearted take an its any thing but that.Dark story lines bloody with a contrasting art style.

Will have to agree tho Dog & Scissors could easly be considered a guilty pleasure. It that 1st episode was not so hard to get threw i think it would be way more popular . Its every bit the parody Binbogami ga! is. Actualy it hits sevrial of the same notes Binbogami ga! with shonen parody.Its problems tho include some thinking it a justification of animal abuse.Then again one thing the world will never lack is silly notions.

@YotaruVegeta:

I was sleepy. I meant to say the anime reminded me of Phoenix Wright and Battle Royale.

@Marshal Victory:

I forgot one more guilty pleasure series for this summer. I think I'm abusing the term.

Mushibugyo! - It's a cliche shonen series full of T&A. Though, it's not crude or heavy like High School DxD. It's about Fairy Tail level except more Gainax Bounce. Jinbei is like Rock Lee but more stupider.

I tried Lupin the 3rd when it aired on basic analog channels. The time where folks had those antennae apparatus. Haven't tried the Fujiko Mine show yet. Loved Binbougami ga and more than Dog & Scissors. What Binbougami Ga had was more drama and character development. Dog & Scissors started to get creepy when the scissor wielding maniac, Natsuno, start having feelings for the bibliophilic dog, Kazuhito,. I hope they remain friends. What's interesting is that Dog & Scissors, Kazuhito, is a magnet for few of the ladies. Compared to Binbougami Ga!, Momiji and the some of the female supporting characters are fighting to get Keita.

@takashichea: I think your using it right ..

http://encycGuilty pleasure

A guilty pleasure is something one enjoys and considers pleasurable despite feelingguilt for enjoying it. The "guilt" involved is sometimes simply fear of others discovering one's lowbrow or otherwise embarrassing tastes. Fashion, music, and junk food can be examples of guilty pleasures.

Mushibugyo! is a good example of a show i dont really have any guilty please from just enjoy it as it is. a good to decent shonen with head nods to adults every so often.Or would that be jiggles ?

it would shock me based on past series you like that you would not like Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine .An ya Dog & Scissors gets weird but it never crosses that line.

@takashichea: It's hard to say that they both were not inspirations.
