This series has reached a level of ridiculous that is almost a match for the Madden series of games. They just keep making new ones every year, but never actually craft the game play. They think that they can just add in new characters and moves for people will buy it, and they are right. People are that stupid.

When they just keep making new series every year. I don't see it as worth buying. Better to wait till the end, but supporting these games most likely goes some toward VIZ. So, no go.
Visually, it's a fairly good looking game. The backgrounds are rather bland though.

It's actually been 2 years since the first one. Unless you're talking about Naruto games in general, I don't see why you are complaining. Comparing it to Madden is making it out to be worse than it actually is. It's more along the lines of Dragonball regarding frequency of the release of its games.  You act like they haven't been releasing Naruto, or even anime based games in general, en masse until now.

And fuck your generalizations. I will be getting this game. The first one might not be held in high esteem among fighting game fans, but I had a lot of fun playing the first one with friends and family and it became a standard game to bring whenever I visit relatives and is the only Naruto game I have bought. People seem to forget videogames are a recreational activity that can be enjoyed with people who are physically in the same room with you and share laughs and humorous outbursts of frustration whenever you lose. So more good times is a plus in my book. Not everyone is a hardcore gamer, some people just want to have fun.

Even if it's your first. I'd say rent it only, because in a few year or less they are going to release another one where the only thing they will add is more characters and some new stages to fight on. Would you go out and buy a Nintendo DS Lite now while knowing they are releasing a DS with a 3-D camera and there are two other DS systems with cameras?

You are basically dropping $60 for something that will be out of date in no time. it's better to wait till the series is over and you get the game that has every character in it.

@minipato:
Oh, two years. Yeah, that makes a world of difference. I'm not excluding Dragon Ball. Their games are just as bad about this issue. I didn't mention it since this isn't a trailer for a Dragon Ball game.
Both games are like Madden. They barely develop these games and occasionally make alterations to the systems. The only ting that the Naruto games add are new characters and stages. It's not as these are DLC additions. They want you to pay full price for just a few more characters and no real improvement to gameplay.

The only things they develop in these games are the visuals. They know they don't have to actually refine the game play, because people are just paying for the characters. Which is silly.

It's not about being a hard core gamer or not. It's about paying them for half-assed games. The reason they keep putting these out so fast is because they know people will pay for them.

I was actually planning on getting the 3D's much later after it's release date completely depending on what games it has on it.
Although I'm not sure about it being out of date in no-time though, generally these games take quite at least a year or more. Not to mention there isn't much story post Pein to build another title yet at all, so the whole process could take a few years.
The manga itself looks like it will take quite a while before it's done with Madara anyhow so thats also a long wait.

I can certainly see your point though.

@Hellos:
I'm also waiting to buy a 3DS. I'm not really trusting of these new technologies. I like to wait a while to see if it has any bugs first by following consumer reports. Maybe wait for a price drop. I also don't really see the point in the 3D camera. It seems like a gimmick. I know how it works for games, but I don't see it as very practical for taking actual pictures. I'd rather get a less expensive DSi.

The games have a really short shelf life. Pretty much after they finish one they start the next one. I'd certainly say rent it if you really want to play the game, but you are throwing money away to pay full price for just a few characters. In a pretty short time they are just going to release another one with more new characters and moves. Paying $60 for a game brand new should mean more that just two years worth of entertainment.

I'm not so sure Naruto has much more life in it. Naruto has pretty much gained the power of the most power creature in the series the Ninetailed Fox, and the biggest mysteries of this world have been revealed. We know who the main villain is, we know the truth behind Itachi, and we now know the full story behind Naruto's parents and back story. There are no really big mysteries left in this story. All that is needed is one last big battle.

I'm somewhat tired of cameras at all in my handhelds at all. It feels like a waste of my battery power, if I want to slap a picture of myself in there thats what my computer and real camera is for.

I don't know I still have my 64 sitting down stairs and a horde of games waiting at a moments notice to be played. Generally I hold onto a lot of stuff way past their expiration date.
Hell I played Dead Space's campaign like 40 times. :P

The thing is though, he's not like Bee who's going all tailed beast and in control seemingly, Naruto just gets his sage of six path aura with some crazy physical boostes / teleportation. So far it seems like he's really lacking that full power of the Fox, considering one day Pein's dropping his own attack on his head with no damage the next kicking a wall has him down for the count. Maybe some more showings of him using that power and actually going tailed will convince me otherwise. Plus the final fight is supposed ti be between Sasuke and Naruto anyhow.

You scoff at two years like it's not the standard length to make a game or add and improve on existing technology and mechanics of the first game. I don't see why the game doesn't warrant to be a sequel. It's adding new huge free roam areas outside the Leaf Village and the Sand village, it's adding new characters and techniques (which hey, is a big deal for a fighting game and requires a lot of work and programming), and more elaborate boss battles. Calling people stupid for buying a product they enjoy and dismissing the possibility that there are legitimate reasons for buying the game is ignorant, close minded, and elitist. Common quality of spoiled hardcore gamers that think they're better than everyone cause they're not buying the yearly Call of Duty, which I'm also getting and was also made in the span of 2 years, got a problem with that? And yes only those hardcore gamers with entitlement complexes pay attention to what happens behind the scenes too much to enjoy the actual game itself. Buying games I enjoy and that I feel are worth my money does not mean I will bend over for any company and buy what they throw at me. I will cry foul when I feel I am being ripped off.  And I don't base my game purchases off of moral principle of "who is my money going to and what kind of message does this send to the company?" That's just bullshit hippy mentality.

It's like being guilt tripped by vegetarians for eating meat. Except the vegetarians have a worthwhile cause. Unlike those whiny gamers that cry out over how popular games magically make money instead of actually playing and enjoying their own. Unless they're using child slaves to make the game, you're not gonna make me feel like I'm doing a bad or moronic thing by buying it.

Now what would be stupid of me is if I bought every single game with Naruto slapped on the title regardless of quality or gameplay. But there's a reason I have only bought 1 Naruto game ever and plan on buying the sequel to that one game, it's because I enjoy the gameplay style of the first game and think that the sequel adds on to it. I'm not a blind slave to the brand, I watch the trailers and gameplay to see if it still appeals to me and it does, so I'll buy it.

@minipato:
Point one, the new Medal of Honor game called Black Ops is not being developed by the same team that made Modern Warfare 2. They are separate game series. Infinity Ward makes the Modern Warfare series. Treyarch is making Black Ops. They are separate game series made under the title of Call of Duty. Modern Warfare is even considered a separate franchise.
They aren't going to be shutting down the Modern Warfare 2 servers any time soon. So, the multi-player gives that a lot of playtime. Not to mention that each of these Call of Duty games are always brand new story and game play features. They add on a variety to online maps, weapons, and even have DLC to expand game play.

The problem with these Naruto style of games is that they release a new one constantly, but you are often just replaying the same missions over from previous games, and they add on maybe two or three extra levels. The previous Naruto Ultimate Storm was even worse. It didn't have half the characters the game before it had. They took characters out of the game rather than adding more.
It's the same with Madden. You are playing the very same game every year, but with maybe one or two small tweaks. Paying full price as well. These kind of games are only worth a rent.

Secondly, I'm speaking as a moderator when I'm going to tell you to please watch your language.
It's not "hippy" to actually care what your money is going to. When people buy bad games. That's what they are going to keep making.
