The Murata Katana is a sword from the manga/anime series Highschool of the Dead that was written by Daisuke Sato and illustrated by Shouji Sato. The series first began serialization in Fujimi Shobo's Monthly Dragon Age magazine in July 2006. It first appeared in Highschool of the Dead Volume 3 CH. 12 "The Sum of All Deads", and the anime appearance was in Highschool of the Dead - Episode 11 "Dead Storm Rising".
The blade of the Murata-tou is a double-edged Kissaki-Moroha only slightly curved. During the Meiji Era, it was created for Major General Murata, who was also known for the Murata Rifle. It was forged at the Tokyo Artillery Factory. As legend has it, how could cut the skull of a pig in half and not damage the blade.
