A long-time friend and ally of Joseph Joestar. He controlls the stand named Magician's Red.
Born with a power known as a Stand, Mohammed Avdol lived his life as a fortune teller at the Khan el-Khalili bazaar in Cairo, Egypt. He eventually became acquainted with Joesph Joestar and learned about the vampire Dio. One night during a full moon, he encountered Dio while heading to the first floor of his office. He immediately knew who he was and managed to escape him before he can implant a flesh bud on his head. While he was in New York, he met and managed to tame the dog Iggy.
Mohammed Avdol was created by Hirohiko Araki, the author and illustrator of series, as a major character of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure's third arc, Stardust Crusaders. His name is a reference to the Saudi singer Mohammed Abdu.
Avdol is a tall, muscular African man with black hair in braids on the top and a pony tail. He wears a plain white band around his head and a large yellow pendant-earing with markings inscribed on it. He usually dresses in a large reddish jacket with a blue scarf, a gray shirt and pants with brown shoes. He also has two bands on his arms.
Avdol is presented as an extremely knowledgeable man who is dedicated to his friends to the point of putting their safety above his own. Avdol often acts as the voice of reason within the group.
Avdol accompanies Joseph Joestar to Japan with the intentions of helping his grandson Jotaro Kujo who had recently awakened a Stand. After he gets Jotaro to leave his prison cell, he goes to a restaurant with the Joestars to tell Jotaro and Holly Kujo the meaning behind his stand. After Holy suddenly develops her Stand-like illness, he travels with the Jotaro, Joseph and Kakyoin in order to find and kill Dio.
After leaving Japan, the group tries to take a plane to Hong Kong but is ambushed by one of Dio minions Gray Fly. Kakyoin manages to defeat his Stand Tower of Gray but he still manages to kill the pilots and make Joseph land the plane of the coast of Hong Kong.
While the group discusses their new travel route, a friendly tourist named Jean Pierre Polnareff asks for a translation of the menu and soon joins them for dinner. He soon reveals to be an enemy Stand user sent by Dio. He then challenges Avdol and they both move to the Tiger Balm Garden in order for Avdol to use his stand in an open location.
Polnareff quickly gets the upper hand on Avdol due to his relentless attacks and speed but Avdol manages to use his own power against him by switching places with the statue that Polnareff’s Stand Silver Chariot created and hitting him with his attack Cross Fire Hurricane. As the group begins to leave, a small explosion happens behind. Polnareff reveals himself to be only slightly injured due to Silver Chariot’s armor. He also receives a massive increase in speed and is now able to create after images. However, Avdol uses the field to his advantage and sends one of his attacks underground for a surprise attack. He gives the burning Polnareff a knife to give him the option of not burning to death. He is impressed when Polnareff chooses not to commit suicide or throw the knife while his back was turned. He then rescinds his fire off Polnareff and asks Jotaro to remove the flesh bud that Dio had put on him.
On their way to Singapore, the group encounters the aquatic Stand Dark Blue Moon whose user manages to temporarily stop the group even after being defeated by Jotaro by blowing up the ship. They then encounter the Stand Strength who is bound to a ship. It manages to capture Avdol, Joseph, Kakyoin and Polnareff but Jotaro manages to defeat its stand user Forever. After arriving in Singapore, the group decides to stay at a hotel where Polnareff encounters the Stand user Devo the Cursed. While Avdol discuss their course of action, Polnareff defeats Devo and his stand Ebony Devil. Avdol and Joseph then use Hermit Purple to read Dio’s current thoughts and learn that Kakyoin is Dio agent. It is then revealed that the Kakyoin that was with Jotaro is actually Rubber Soul and his Stand Yellow Temperance.
The group soon arrives in Calcutta and goes to a restaurant. Avdol soon learns that Polnareff encountered the Stand Hanged Man which belongs to the man who killed his sister. Avdol advises Polnareff to stay with the group but it soon leads to an argument between the two men. Avdol follows Polnareff and saves him from getting shot in the head from Hol Horse and his gun-like Stand Emperor. He tries to melt the bullet after it changes its trajectory but he is stabbed by the Hanged Man from his reflection in a puddle. However, this causes him to move slightly backwards causing Emperor’s bullet to only scratch him. The group keeps his survival a secret from Polnareff to prevent him giving away Avdol’s location while he recovers.
Avdol disguises himself as his father when the group arrives to his location to not alarm Polnareff. While Polnareff was being eaten alive by the Stand Judgement’s Avdol and Polanreff’s sister Sherry clones, the real Avdol appears and saves him. After Avdol causes the Stand to retreat, he and Polnareff locate the user Cameo who is hiding underground and force him to come out of hiding. He the burns him and returns to the main group. They begin to travel towards Egypt in Avdol’s new submarine but they are soon attacked by the Stand High Priestess in the submarine. The group soon abandons the submarine and begins to swim towards the shores. High Priestess reforms the minerals at the bottom of the sea and traps the groups. Jotaro manages to break all of the Stand’s teeth allowing the group to escape to the shore.
The group meets the Speedwagon Foundation and they meet the dog Iggy and his Stand the Fool. Avdol attempts to calm Iggy down by offering him coffee-flavored chewing gum. The group is soon attacked by N’Doul and his Stand Geb. After failing to get away from Geb by car, Avdol tries to trick N’Doul by throwing his bracelets on the ground in order to imitate his footsteps and attack him. However, N’Doul soon realizes this, counterattacks Avdol and incapacitates him. Jotaro leads Geb away from the group in order to grab Iggy and track N’Doul’s location. Jotaro defeats him but he kills himself before Jotaro could question him about the remaining Stand users.
The group continues to Cairo after leaving Kakyoin to recover. Avdol and Joseph both touch the Stand’s Bastet outlets which causes both of them to become magnetized. They both try to chase the user Mariah but they are soon magnetized in several compromising positions in public. They soon get stuck onto train tracks while chasing after her and they are nearly run over by a train. Avdol burns the wood on the train tracks which allows them to dig under the tracks to avoid it. They decide to split up and trap Mariah at a joining. While running, they both attract several heavy metal objects. When the finally corner her, the metal inside the cables overhead becomes attracted to them and nearly electrocutes Joseph. However, they use their magnetic polarity to attract towards each other and crush Mariah between them. They then regroup with Jotaro, Polnareff and Iggy who had just finished fighting Alessi and his Stand Sethan.
While looking for Dio’s mansion, the group encounters Daniel J. D’Arby who claims to know the location of the mansion. He explains to the group that he only lives for gambling and will only tell them if they win in a game of chance. Polnareff loses the first bet of which piece of meat the cat will go for first and then D’Arby takes his soul with his stand Orisis. Joseph’s soul is also taken after he loses the second bet of who can put coins into a glass of liquor without spilling it against him. Jotaro then challenges him to a game of poker and breaks his finger when he attempts to cheat. Avdol asks a nearby boy, who is league with D’Arby, to deal the cards. Despite losing the first game and half of his soul, Jotaro raises the rest of his soul, Avdol’s soul, Kakyoin’s soul and his mother Holly’s soul without looking at his cards. This causes D’Arby to have a breakdown and lose consciousness allowing every soul he trapped to be free.
After his fight with the hawk Petshop, Kakyoin takes Iggy to the doctors at the Speedwagon foundation and then to the group. Iggy then leads the group towards Dio’s mansion where they meet the butler Terance T. D’Arby. He then takes Jotaro through a hole on the ground with Joseph and Kakyoin who tried to save him. Joseph then tells Avdol to burn down the mansion if they don’t come back in ten minutes.
After waiting ten minutes, Avdol, Polnareff and Iggy decide to go into the mansion to defeat Dio. He tells them both that he will not save them if they get into trouble. He then asks them to do the same if he got into trouble. After entering the maze, Avdol uses his Life Detector in case to locate any enemies. He then locates an enemy named Kenny G and Iggy manages to defeat him without much effort. The maze then disappears revealing it to be an illusion created by his Stand Tenore Sax. Avdol then sees a message on a pillar stating that they will die when they turn their heads. He quickly checked his Life Detectors to ensure that there are no enemies nearby. However, he still decides to turn around and sees the Stand Cream suddenly appear out of its alternate dimension. He quickly shoves Iggy and Polnareff out of the way and is instantly erased by Cream’s Void only leaving behind his arms. Vanilla Ice and Cream then return to erase his arms. After Polnareff manages to defeat Vanillan Ice, Avdol’s and Iggy’s souls both briefly look back at Polnareff and then ascend to Heaven.
