So even though the 18-meter Gundam model in Odaiba, Japan has been essentially completed for a little while now, a special unveiling event was held in Japan on Friday night (which was yesterday for us, remember). The event included a performance by Gackt and an intro by Ray Amuro seiyuu Tooru Furuya, and a number of videos have been posted to YouTube.

Here's a pretty solid video of the presentation:

And this video ( via ANN), as far as I can tell, is Gackt narrating while some of his music plays in the background. He doesn't actually show up live-ish until about two minutes in, I think.

What's amazing to me is how relatively quiet the audience is! Can you imagine how freakin' loud American fans would be at an event like this? Ahh, cultural differences...

Thank goodness this was a celebration for the classic UC Gundam...

I mean, if they built a Cosmic Era suit instead, I don't think I could've survived watching a Lacus Clyne/Meer Campbell concert...

Why did they do this?

@GrandMarshal: You say that as though a 60 foot Gundam standing in your park is perfectly normal...

Although I do applaud your future-considering mindset of mobile suits being completely commonplace!
