We don't have a ton of information about the new series, but it appears to be Universal Century (not alternative like 00 or Wing). The new series will also apparently feature the RX-78-7 Gundam model, which is the last in the RX-78 line, which was apparently the same line that the primary Gundam from the original series was from.
That said, we've also got a bit of info on the creators. Mech design will be by Hajime Katoki (Gundam Wing, Super Robot Wars OG Divine Wars), and character design will be by Tatsuya Suzuki (Legend of Reyon, some design work in GaoGaiGar: King of Braves).
The story revolves around a pilot in command of the Earth Federation's Phantom Sweep Team, which has to hunt down whatever's left of the Zeon forces at the end of the One Year War from original Gundam. Sherry Allison, a 24-year-old test pilot who was thrown into the team to fill its ranks after the war, helps him out.
On
the Zeon side we have Eric Blanke, born to a wealthy family and
leader of a group called the Invincible Knights, who try to avenge
the Zeon's loss. The year will be 0081, if you're the kind of Gundam
fan who counts.
Okay guys-- who's excited for this? I admit that the non-alternative Gundam series have always rather overwhelmed me (there's so much of it! Where would I even start?), but this might give me a good chance to try and wriggle my way into it. How about you? And of course, the long-time Gundam fans-- what are you thinking?
EDIT: Another scan and more info from here. Looks like it'll definitely be an anime.
