So, the 30th anniversary of Gundam celebration continues in Japan, spotlighted primarily by the 18-meter “life-size” Gundam replica in Odaiba.

But on Wednesday, a new Gundam project was announced, and it's not an anime, a manga, a game, a figure, or even a new model. No, the latest Gundam project is... the 2016 Olympics!

Yes, Tokyo is in the running for the 2016 summer Olympics, and not only that, it's the front-runner. And Gundam is getting in on the bidding act with the Green Tokyo Gundam Project, which starts this Saturday as part of the 30th Anniversary festivities.

The new project is actually designed to raise funds to plant new trees and other greens in Tokyo to help transform the trees.

Now how cool is that? Gundams ARE a force for good!

Honestly, I want Chi-Town to get it but never the less it would be cool to see it.

If Tokyo does get the Olympics, I want to see the opening ceremonies have Gundams flying everywhere. Yes please.

Wait, so are they auctioning the Odaiba Gundam or something?

That would make for a good starting husk to work from....

And yet the only thing I care about is that this is the first time that I've actually got to see a picture of the life-sized Gundam with people in the frame.

Oh, also, trees are cool.  And stuff.

Turns out, 2016 is  the year the Olympics committee unveils a new, top secret event called the Gundam Fight, where nations competing in the games enter in their own Gundam for a chance to win the world...I mean the gold medal.
