" @cfatalis: Well, he used Code Geass as comparison. Compared to that, Full Metal Panic is indeed more rational. Especially since we have a somewhat sound explanation to mecha development and later we even get answers to the existence of Whispered. "
well true code geas development is rather dubious
hell even after ganymede

WTF is a sakuradite? somekind of super efficient fuel, that tiny thing piloting a super moving robot?

@cfatalis:
A superconductor mineral that made electronics piss-cheap and easy to make. In liquid form also it acts like super-effective bomb. Yeah, pretty much unobtanium.

you are forgotting the fact that the largest deposite is found on an island nation, which probably mean that there weren't that many in the first place

Gundam is certainly a seminal series in the world of manga and anime but I would not presume to call it the Superman of Japan.  Sure you have the boy power fantasy that you'd associate with most anime franchises but the core of almost every Gundam series' story is way more military drama than it is a superhero wish fulfillment.   They tend to be all about social-political strife, revolutionist warfare, and the moral incongruities of using child soldiers. There are multiple allegories that exist in the expanded universe that call back to various wars throughout human history and some of them are so biting that you get the feeling you could tell the exact same story if you replaced the robots with tanks and space jets.

Clearly I haven't seen enough mecha shows if my answer to the physically biggest is Unicron.  You say that other robot is as big as a galaxy?  Forgive me if I call bullshit.  Science fiction is one thing but if you're blatantly ignoring physics that much just to contend with Transformers then you're clearly missing the point of your show.

I don't know if this counts since in the anime, the only ones shown is the 50m size of Demonbane.. But in the Visual Novel.. at Wargod demonbane form.. it's actually hopping from a universe to universe (not just galaxy but a whole universe) then when it went to Eldergod form, it's so big that a single universe can't contain it, it grew so big that the universe it was in popped like a bubble, then it grew more until it could look down on an entire multiverse (collection of universes).. the second Biggest would be STTGL at 52.8 billion lightyears tall.. With the exception of Demonbane, Super tengen toppa gurenn lagann is the biggest mech in all anime..
